Why are most book covers on Scribble Hub in anime/manga style? Are other styles of cover not allowed? (Just curious to know)

@Tony claims there's a bug that affects the bot that handles book covers, and spits out a lot of them for no reason at all. Since he has no desire to address the problem, as it affects only a handful of people, this is unfortunately a huge drawback.

See, Tony? I'm not SPAMMING.

Please don't word it like that. I know you were burned by the system, but at least don't spread misinformation.

What she meant to say is that real-life bodies can get stuck in the algorithm that checks for allowed covers, so they are not breaking NSFW rules. Yes, the bot has issues, and yes, they can flag stories for nudity in the cover and reject them because of it. Even if there is no nudity. But... that is not the majority, or there would be a proper upheaval by now.

Tl;d: That does not mean they are NOT ALLOWED.

They are.

Simply put, anime-style covers work best because that is how the reader base is. And that is what AI is mostly used for. There are plenty of non-anime covers. This is just me flicking through trending:

Um, this is exactly what I said. It's not misinformation, I was told personally what was going on. It has nothing to do with nudity or showing too much skin. (or fur). I can attest to this, because an author here had a problem when they tried to upload a picture of a pearl on a wooden table. Let's not even dwell on this. I know what's going on and I accepted it.

No, other types of covers are allowed.

I'm still confused :blob_teary:
Nonetheless, I was able to upload my AI generated covers. They didn't have any characters/humans at all so there was no problem. If NSFW covers are not allowed, why do most of these anime covers have explicit women images?

If I could ask, are you getting messages back that say the cover was rejected...?

Eye catching. Cool. Trendy. These things come to mind. I had a more themed cover for my book at the start, even though it is an anime story. Swapped to a Light Novel vibe and saw a decent boost in views. It's just the environment these days. It won't make or break your story but if you're shooting for every possible view grab, it helps.

Because readers and authors here are mostly weebs, anime fans, manga fans, Japanese light novel readers, call it however you want. So not only anime covers appeal to more readers, a lot of authors prefer them as well.
Are other styles of cover not allowed?
Other styles are allowed.

Most if not all of the covers with explicit women were approved and submitted way before the rules have changed. If you press Latest series button, you will see the amount of explicit women on covers there is close to zero. Sometimes they slip through the bot, but they are usually deleted.

I've noticed that most popular novels with non-anime covers were written in 2022 or earlier. I don't know why they became so popular; perhaps back then, SH users weren't as widespread as they are now, so reading options were limited. But now, anime covers have become an unwritten law, as if breaking them would mean you wouldn't be noticed by readers. I suspect SH's audience tends to be anime fans, and don't forget that SH itself emerged from the NU ecosystem, which predominantly features translated Japanese, Korean, and Chinese novels. I also knew SH from NU. So it's natural that SH readers tend to prefer the anime/light novel style.
explicit women images
What do you mean by 'explicit women'? My cover features female characters, or rather, a portrait of a mother and her little daughter in a rose field.

Bare-chested males aren't allowed either, as I found out.

I didn't even point out to your covers. I've just seen many cover images with anime women in bikinis or clothes that barely cover anything, otherwise even if they're appropriately clothed, I see that the body shape itself is so curvy it looks weird. I don't know how to attach any story's link here otherwise I would've. Anyways, I'm not pointing out to anyone in particular. Those who don't have explicit covers, great. Those who do, I can't do anything but criticize.

Oh
I didn't either, which is another bug, apparently. I get acceptance ones, but not rejection notices. ?
That's weird. I've posted two books by now, but I didn't get any acceptance message.

Oh... that's great. I respect the characters' closed appearance and tend not to differentiate between fictional characters and real people. Wearing closed clothing is a way to maintain human dignity.

And that's the problem. You don't know if it was accepted or not, unless you get a message saying it was accepted. You won't get a rejection notice. I'd be curious to know if that is happening frequently too.
