High-school anime titles that are not shit (not in order just the top of my head, remembering I liked them):

  1. your name.
  2. A silent voice
  3. Kaguya-sama love is war
  4. Your lie in April
  5. Nodame Cantable
  6. My dress-up darling
  7. Ouran high school host club
  8. Komi can't communicate
  9. Toradora
  10. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu
  11. Clannad
  12. Asobi Asobase
  13. Baby Steps
  14. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
  15. Don't toy with me Miss Nagatoro
And I won't continue as Sailus said, it is pointless as probably 15 out of 15 of the above list are shit in others' eyes.
I firmly believe the only reason people consider "Your Name" good, is the artstyle, which is genuinelly georgeous.
I watched it on the behest of a friend, and while the first half is just a run-of-the-mill body swap, the second half is when the writers ran out of ideas and started bullshitting their way to the ending. It required all my suspension of disbelief and still it was bad.

I'm gonna write a serious dystopian world about the struggles between a powerful Tyrant and the resistance, and make it a romance slice-of-life, just to spite your hate in romance.

Just kidding, people have their own taste in media they consume. It would seem you're the type to enjoy serious realistic stories, perhaps you'll like 'Terror in Resonance'? 'Gunbuster' is a must watch too.

I genuinely enjoyed the story, the art style is a huge bonus. I didn't see the story 'bullshitting' its way to the ending, I think they're all handled quite well and linked with each other pretty nicely.

@Anon2023 “So 3/15 good in my eyes” says after not even watching 7 of them. :blob_neutral:
You said 15/15 are shut, I just wanted to prove you wrong :s_smile:
Also I didn’t rate the ones I haven’t seen, just said I hadn’t seen them, and if the ones I did see, 3 of them weren’t bad… are you misreading?

Personally, I can agree it is all tentatively connected, but handled quite well, I have to disagree on that point. The icing on the cake was the phone messages between them - I can somehow get over how those messages were comming through in "real time" for both of them, despite the time difference of multiple years, but when he watched the messages just disappear from his phone one by one... that's when my suspension of disbelief waved the final goodbye.

They didn't chat with each other in 'real time'. They left messages on each other person's phone/book/etc. When they swap, they would read it and then write a response that the other would read whenever they switch again. This explains why they are able to communicate with each other despite the time difference.

but when he watched the messages just disappear from his phone one by one... that's when my suspension of disbelief waved the final goodbye.
Not every story should have the same level of "Suspension of Disbelief" applied to them with other stories. Your Name and other stories made by Makoto Shinkai always have extreme mystical/fantastical element so the 'disbelief' bar should be set quite high. I understand why you would feel that the story is nonsensical, but the story is already nonsensical from the start.

The scene where Taki and Mitsuha finally meet on the mountains for example. When Mitsuha disappeared before she could write her name on Taki's hand so he would remember, it doesn't explicitly explain why Taki started forgetting her name even though he just met her a few seconds ago. He even said her name multiple times. But, it made the scene much more impactful, and it fits the lore that was already there, in which 'this was not supposed to happen'. As if the world is trying to correct itself.

The story isn't 'bullshitting' us, it gave us a story. If it makes the story more enjoyable, why complain about it?

You know lately anime shows just dont feel like they have pasion and soul in them. I recently started watching a classic. Its called space brothers. brothers trying to be aspiring astronauts. Or main mc just lost direction in life and was fired but he finds some motivation to become an astronaut just like his little brother.

This is not a fantasy show its a show about realism and Space brothers delivers hard. Would recommend anyone to try it. Better than all the things out currently. No teens no highschool etc. Soild ost imo
I’d watch it if there wasn’t 100 + episodes. I ain’t got time for that.

Trust me. Watch the 1st 3 episode
youwill give it time everyday just like me. I watch everday 1 episode. Currently 32. Ita s soild opening
The ONLY good anime is Neon Genesis Evangelion
Hmm. What about shiki?
I'm gonna make a guess. ManwX would probably like From Now on We Begin Ethics and similar works, but it has no anime adaptation(I think).
Yep. Like i like shows with unique plots like take for example bellzebub. Its a funny comedy series that just fun to watch. Romance i hardly ever like.

Bruhs and Lady bruhs, and ultra bruhs, allow me to give you some guidance here:

The Obvious Best Horrors:
1. Boku no Pico
2. Record of Ragnarok Netflix Adaptation
3. That CG season of Berserk
4. Whatever Studio Perriot did to tokyo ghoul
5. Anything where a grown man is trying to seduce a child
6. Ghost Stories but the English dub

I've got more lists. You want more lists? I've got them.
Other Interesting Horrors
1. That one episode of Overlord
2. Higurashi... admittedly, it's also pretty funny
3. Cells at Work (The human body is scary)
4. Mushishi
5. Parasyte
6. Made in Abyss
7. Madoka
8. Grimgar of fantasy and ash
9. Psycho Pass First Season

Still need some lists? Bruh, I've got them

My personal preferences for Highschool anime. There's probably more, but these are the ones in my head right now
1. Highschool DxD
2. A Certain Magical Index
3. Hero Academia
4. When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace
5. Misfit of Demon King Academy
6. Amagi SS
7. Gundam Witch of Mercury
8. Terror in Resonance

ManwX's like of Beelzebub actually tells us a lot. Considering Beelzebub as the standard, maybe we can fill in some others. The unfortunate thing is that Beelzebub's style doesn't make the transition over to anime well, because those mangas don't typically do well enough to get adaptations.
So, ManwX, this is me trying to match a few to you

1. When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace (It might be different enough)
2. Kiznaiver (Very divisive, but it has themes about emotions)
3. Gridman SS (An 'ok' blend of highschool, kaiju, and character)
3.5 Kill la Kill (I don't think this will work, but putting it in because of how many trigger series are here)
4. Little Witch Academia (Cute, but not complex and sometimes irritating.)
5. Shokugeki no Soma (Might as well add it)
6. Terror in Resonance (it's different than most highschool ones)
7. Katekyo Hitman Reborn
8. Bakuman
