If you had a secret chamber, would you hide it deep beneath your palace, hidden in a labyrinth of tunnels devoid of light, or in the hollowed out tip of a mountain, out of the reach of civilization. Granted, you could reach either easily because the caretaker of the chamber could guide you to it through magic.

For context, the chamber would contain ancient books written by previous emperors, each containing a plethora of wisdom and knowledge. Artifacts from all corners of the world. Some mere objects of value to other nations and peoples, others are capable of obliterating cities. They are guarded by an ancient dude with magical powers beyond those of anyone else. So, where would you consider a better place to keep such a chamber?

Seriously? If I aim to hide that chamber with no one suspecting what it was, or its contents, I'd choose the most unlikely place possible: the middle of the city, in a run-down house, and have it guarded by inconspicuous guards (acting as a normal family) with built-in false walls and pathways.

Hiding it in palaces or mountain tops or dungeons can only invite daredevils/archaeologists in cowboy hats and/or tank tops trying their luck in accessing it. Whereas in the city, your most dangerous opponent will be the robbers, which can be easily dispatched by your guards (if ever they suspect that your small hut is hiding anything of value).

The mountain can be reached by flight, and the dungeon can be reached by digging. In either case, the defenses would be the only thing of import. If they're so weak that you need to hide the vault, then someone will get in no matter what.

That said, I pick space. Or the core of the planet. The core of another planet?

If that's not possible, just put it a floor under the palace or the local library. It's more convenient.

If Ai-chan were to put something very valuable in a secret room, Ai-chan would not put it in an obvious place such as a palace. Ai-chan would find some place that is unlikely to be excavated but in plain site such as under a tree in a forest. Ai-chan would carve a secret number on a stone somewhere in case Ai-chan forget the coordinate and then leave. Nobody would be able to find it unless they were to clear the forest to make high rise apartment or something.

As for the secret code, who would care about a few numbers carved into a tombstone?

At first glance, both of seem great. However, the world likes to play games with you all the time. The more you try to hide something, the bigger the chances are that it gets discovered.

Uncle Hans has the right idea. Just hide it in the most unexpected place. Sometimes not caring about it shows how much you really do care :blob_popcorn:

Opening up a statue of Shakespeare, there is a red button. This button, when pressed, reveals two poles behind a bookcase. Sliding down these poles will change the costume of your MC and their young companion as they enter the cave underneath the manor.

Under a park bench. Preferrably in a childpark so that investigators will look like child predators.

Just wondering who is hollowing out the tip of the mountain. Wouldn't that involve a lot of work, and wouldn't these workers get noticed?
I'd sure be curious.

If it has to be one or the other then it depends on if you have pride in the collection. Maybe you want future generations of kings to feel pride in it as well. Making them more likely to put the effort into keeping it maintained. If so, palace. It would add incentive as well. Since no king would want intruders below their home, but might care less about them sacking some mountain their uptight father told them was important.

Ancient mage who did it overnight. He had a few helpers, but they were promptly executed after their work was done

Something like the "hive"? in the Resident Evil movies...
Uh, no. No experimenting. Just holds ancient artifacts and treasured wisdom along with a guy who is a few thousand years old, or several hundred million
