What would you do if you encounter a haters and lot of criticism in one of your novel?


:I want to talk about experience since I'm still a noob with no experience but wanting to know how most authors respond to criticism. I do talk sh*t a lot whenever I read someone else's novel. And it is satisfying! But I don't know how it feels to be one of receiving end of this criticism now that I'm also about to venture in writing. ?

"Your criticism is good and valid, I may have your opinion in mind when writing, or not at all."

Anyone can be triggered by anything and criticize for any reason. Think about the kind of story you want to write, and what the critic is saying. Also note that the loudest critic isn't always an accurate depiction of how your story is. You can see a big divide between audiences and critics on sites like Meteoritic.

Critics are often paid to influence the public, although I doubt someone online is being paid to influence how your novel is, a lot of readers want a story to cater to them.

tbh just ignore, unless critism. because i recently uplaoded y book on rr, and some people were complaining of my backstory, but when i did a pole in the fiction asking whether or not to remove the backstory well, over 46 votes, 80.43% chose keep the backstory, and 14% chose remove so realized they were just a minority, so decided to ignore them, some even told me to remove my fiction, because its slow and dark (Despite me warning its dark,) so they even rated me 0.5. but despite that there were the good ones who have been motivating me on my journey. And i'm glad for theeir kind comments. so my advice ignore, if the critism isn't good and you know it would butcher your story which you had in mind don't really take it unless your story is like hella bad. well luckily for me my fiction is doing well on scribble hub

Me? Before, if my novel received a lot of hate, I'd delete it...thinking no one appreciated it.

Nowadays, however, I understand that some people may not like my work. So if they hated on it, I'd choose what feedback is useful to my plans for the story, and disregard/throw/delete the rest.

After all, I'm publishing my story for free. If they don't like it, it's not my problem anymore.

You could reply to them in kind and enjoy yourself while laughing. (I'm totally normal.)

You could also follow the mentioned ideas people pointed out.

One thing my teacher said a long time ago that I still remember is: "If people criticize instead of offering advice, be sure to notice who did what. Engage with the right audiences."

There can be a lot of other things too, like praise or disappointment in your work. In those cases, if you're comfortable, share your dilemma with your audience.

Most people are lonely anyway, so they will engage. Or is it just me?

Embrace the fact that there's not a single work that is fit for everyone and move on.

It will be rough at first since you aren't used to it.

Fix any legitimate errors pointed out. Take candle-lit bubble baths. Ignore anything written in a 1 star review. Wiggle. Repeat.

Constructive and helpful comments are good and should be utilized for the better. If they are unhelpful or hateful then you should ignore them.

Criticism is good, like give me some please, I need it, and hateful comments exist so you can have an existential crisis about if what you do has any meaning at all, or you can not be like me and take the criticism and ignore the hateful comments and go on your way, which probably is the most healthy option.

I know this will sound incredibly arrogant, but the critic that matters the most to me is me. I know my strengths and weaknesses as an author of fiction and will always welcome and appreciate constructive criticism no matter the source and ignore what I believe to be unfair or inaccurate criticism. I think we each need to know where to draw the line. And if we get objectively unfair or useless criticism such as "Yur storry suks" (even with good spelling) we should smile and move on. As Spaniards say, "el gusto se pinta en colores" which literally means taste is painted in [many] colors, or interpreted as taste is subjective.
