To anyone who might need to read this right now:

Remember that even if only one person enjoys the content that you create - you are a successful writer.
Don't get bogged down in the numbers. how many views you have, or readers you keep, etc.
Just keep writing if writing makes you happy.
And keep writing whatever it is you really love to write.
Because someone out there is noticing you and loving what you do.
And if they do, others will too. They just need to find you. Be patient, and they will. ?

That's right. We'll enjoy writing more if we write with a conscience. I write because I want to write. The stories that I keep in my heart, I write, I narrate... and maybe readers will enjoy them.
I might not be popular, and people might laugh at my stories. But... at least I'm not lying to myself. I'm not writing anything that contradicts my ideals. And that's enough for me.:s_smile:?

Using the tens of thousands of hours you spend creating stuff to pay for actual things like rent, or food, defines success. Encouragement is one thing, but hitting a target in the yellow with one arrow out of 50 doesn't make you a successful hunter.

Encouragement is wonderful, if accompanied by recognition of reality... otherwise it's just hot air.

So redefinition... you may be a successful hobbyist, but being a professional requires a lot more. It comes down to your definition of 'writer'. My definition is someone who makes a career of writing.

Well, your definition of writer is actually "published author"; and let's be honest, not many people will ever accomplish that goal, as much as they want to. But that's not what's here on Scribble Hub, is it? There's no published authors here, as far as Scribble hub goes. It's not a publishing house, no one is being represented, no one is being paid by Scribble Hub personally, and Scribble Hub isn't selling printed copies.

So, no, in this venue, here, right now, everyone here who writes something and posts it here for others to see is a writer. and anyone who manages to attract just one person with their writing is a successful writer.

And that's a full stop.

Amen. Thank you for this.

I'm new to this site, but I've posted elsewhere for years. Site members who'd never posted a single comment while I was writing mentioned their favorite chapters or characters only after I went on hiatus. It was wild actually feeling seen after I'd stopped, but I've never forgotten that someone, somewhere, fucks with whatever I wanna write.

We're here. We're writing. We're writers.
Just keep writing.

For myself. I am aiming to get my own small neich fan base tho. I am trying to make a place to share my flurry of ideas, novels in plan, D&D experience and material i make. Ultimately i wanna make a community. So that's why i do ask around to see if my lack of progress in the start is normal or not. Not like i hate my writing. Hell i sometimes publish it with the punctuation mistakes (i cannot always find all of them. I am not a perfectionist, worry isn't for me).

You're suggesting a D&D community, right? That's quite a goal. *^^*

What would you have me do?
Seek for the patronage of some great man?
And like a creeping vine on a tall tree crawl upward, where I cannot stand alone?
No thank you!

Dedicate, as others do, poems to pawnbrokers?
Be a buffoon in the vile hope of teasing out a smile on some cold face?
No thank you!

Eat a toad for breakfast every morning?
Make my knees callous, and cultivate a supple spine, wear out my belly groveling in the dust?
No thank you!

Scratch the back of any swine that roots up gold for me?
Tickle the horns of Mammon with my left hand, while my right too proud to know his partner's business, takes in the fee?
No thank you!

Use the fire God gave me to burn incense all day long?
No thank you!

But... to sing, to laugh, to dream!
To walk in my own way and be alone,
Free, with an eye to see things as they are,

A voice that means manhood!
To cock my hat where I choose:
At a word,
a Yes, a No.,
To fight...
Or write.
To travel any road under the sun, under the stars, nor doubt
If fame or fortune lie beyond the bourne.

Never to make a line I have not heard in my own heart;
yet, with all modesty to say:
"My soul, be satisfied with flowers,
with fruit,
with weeds even;
but gather them in the garden you may call your own."

In a word, I am too proud to be a parasite,
And if my nature wants the germ that grows towering to heaven like a mountain pine,
Or like the oak, sheltering multitudes
I stand,
not high it may be...
but alone!
- Cyrano De Bergerac
