I think Scribblehub writers tend to lean towards original fiction over fanfiction overall, percentage-wise-- I certainly do.

If you asked somewhere else, you might get different answers, though.
This. I think AO3 is popular for fanfics.

I prefer originals (reading and writing). I would much rather re-read an original story than write a fanfic or read one.

As writer of both, fanfic is easier to write because the world, character and rules has been established so you just need think about the storyline (As long you do a proper research). Meh, some fanfic writer even choose to follow close to canon event without making any major change, except putting their SI character as the part of main cast.

Meanwhile for original fic, you wrote everything from scratch, easier get writer blocked due to the fact you need established everything on your own-- the rules, world building, character, storyline, etc. Just need more effort to write than fanfic for sure.

I prefer writing original fic (the fact I only write 2 fanfic out of 6 here) since with original fic you don't have limitation and free to do whatever you want with story itself, but fanfic are sure easier to write.

I have written both, but I find that writing fanfiction for books which have established characters is like writing with an outline. That is why my three GOT fanfictions are short and OCC. I just can't use an outline. But for things like Hetalia, or Vampire: The Masquerade, you can mostly write something without knowing much about the fandom. You just need a bit of common knowledge.

But I prefer to write original works. They can really take me on a journey. I can let the character grow page after page. Let them live and breathe, so they can write the story themselves. That is sort of magical, don't you think so, too?

So, to sum up: If you are a planner, you can probably be able to write a fanfiction. But if you are a pantser you better go the OCC way, or you will fail.

Happy writing, everyone!

Mine's original work 'cause there's so many stories I want to write and to share it with everyone (I don't mind someone disliking my stories). And I don't know what to write in fanfic soooo, yeah :blobtaco:

OGs because I'm willing to put in the work and effort to created something that I can call my own. I may take reference from other stories, but I have the creative capacity to write OGs so I do.

Fanfics make me cringe most of the time anyways and I'd rather not get lumped in with that. Haven't read a proper fanfic that sticks to the OG Characters or gives proper love to the OG story without making my eyes roll. Now, I have read some Fanfics that take the characters and use them in some other capacities that aren't atrocious but it's more wish-fulfillment at that point. I don't hate on people for that but I just don't like to read them.

Definitely more fanfic than original fics.

See, I have a lot of ideas for original stories but it takes work just to bring readers into the same world with me since they don’t have it preassembled in their heads.

With fanfic there’s that thread of common knowledge that helps you and the reader just dive into the same world and go have fun with the characters.

I don't go near fanfiction ever, reading or writing they're just not my thing at all. So I only ever write original stories.

Why? Because if I don't write it all down then it'll just stay in my head and I need that storage space for other stuff occasionally. It gives me something to do and keeps me mentally active.

Fanfics feel easier to write since I don't have to lorebuild, but I primarily write original fictions.

Used to write fanfics when I was starting out. Then I branched out to writing original stuff, and I've kept at it since then.
