Meh, it's a masculine Welsh name. It checks out for me.

Idk Cecil is a very girly name here, it might sound better for English natives but as a French guy I would probably not read a novel with a male MC being called Cecil tbh

It's like The Amber Sword in which the MC is called Sophie, even tho I like the synopsis, I didn't went past the first chapters cuz following a guy with such a girly name is too disturbing.

But once again it's only my opinion, ppl might think differently about it and not mind at all

Then again, I named my protagonist Olive...

lmao I knew someone called Olive in high school and it wasn't that bad, I just hope your MC is a male cuz Olive for a girl... It's like naming a boy Rose, it doesn't fit at all imo :blob_no:

I definitely understand what you're saying. Had the same reaction too once I was reading The Amber Sword. I was able to tolerate it as time passed but stopped reading to accumulate for chapters. Seriously, who names a guy "Sophie"?

I'll find some other name in the meantime, as well as post my first chapter. If nothing else, I guess I'll just stick to it.

Aye, he's a boy. I wanted something slightly androgenous and cute because he's a diminutive sheep daemon.

Also, I see where you're coming from, cultural differences muddy up the lines between feminine and masculine sounds.

Seriously, who names a guy "Sophie"?

Yeah probably.

Plus the fact that in the French language every word has a genre. It might seem weird for non-natives and it's one of the things that make ppl crazy when they learn french cuz they have to remember the correct genre for every word.

For example, a horse (un cheval) is masculine, a window (une fenêtre) is feminine.

That's why naming a boy 'Rose' would be too weird.

As for Olive, the fun fact is that an olive (une olive) is feminine but an olive tree (un olivier) is masculine, and because there is a common male name which is Olivier, it transformed Olive into a male name even tho it has a feminine genre.

So I guess you found a perfect word to name an androgynous character lmao

I... understand, but it took me a while.

And I took French in highschool (but US language education is very, very, very bad.)

This just convinced me to never attempt learning French, thank you very much.
