You understand none of this, do you? The joke flew over your head, it seems. Or maybe you took this seriously. Meh, whatever.

Leme be the prick who needs to explain the context of something.

When writing, an author should NEVER, EVER, force the readers to request a chapter before reading it. No one will ever go and check him if that's what the author did. Instead, make an enticing synopsis and nicely-written chaps of a work and be consistent with it. You won't get much readers on the early chaps, the first chaps to the 30th. But, the more you posted, while also keeping the content of the chaps good, the more readers you will attract, thus giving you abundance amount of views. Take my recently published novel for example. I released the first 5 chapters this week. I also have a synopsis well-made on the front page. And the plot is good, even with several unattended grammar mistakes.

How many views has it gained?

You can check it yourself by clicking on one of the illustrations on my signature right below this paragraphs of mine, the one with a dude typing on a hologram laptop. Yes, that's AI made. I am not ashamed of using it, until I find myself an artist.

But, if you're lazy, here's my report: 130 Views, 8 readers, 7 favorites.

Ah, now I know why you believe the falsehoods you state. You're coping. By the way, the two stories I posted earlier seem to be doing better than your story too (I can confirm that "The Yistamor Chronicle" started here too; the fans didn't come from another site).

Here, let me show you some stories that have thousands of readers (showing that there are plenty of readers), started here in ScribbleHub (their fans didn't follow them from other sites), and the authors of the second, third, and fourth stories are avid readers of the first story (which means the authors read). These stories prove all your claims wrong.

LOL. Okay. First of all, I'll admit to a little hyperbole in claiming there are more writers than readers. I don't know if that is literally true, but that's exactly the point, and you are kind of making it for me. It's impossible to know, because the membership rolls are hidden.

Do you know how big the active registered reader pool is at this time? If you do, I'd love to know how. Because I can't find it.

How do you know that writers don't bring their audiences here? The only alternative is a large native reader pool, which one cannot ascertain.

A cursory glance at the story's statistics page shows the stories get thousands of readers each day (I'll choose the least popular one of those four and screenshot it), that is way more readers than there are authors posting every day.

Nobody is finding these stories in Patreon and then coming here. They found the stories here, and then once the following was big enough, the authors started a Patreon so the readers could support them. People don't just pay money to Patreon accounts before knowing what they've supported. Your attempt to put the cart before the horse is honestly making you seem a bit disingenuous here. I'm not sure if I should continue interacting if you're going to be this insincere. If your goal was to have the last word rather than have an honest discussion, congratulations, you will likely outlast me.

But reality matters.

Simply looking up the site's web traffic implies that approximately 70.4k people visit Scribblehub every month; it'd be foolish to assume that less than half of those people are readers.

There are more writers than readers, and the writers don't read. (For the most part, though some exceptions prove the rule.)

You should check out Honeyfeed if you think that's the case here. On that website it's by design, up to the point that authors are kind of encouraged to leave soulless comments on each other's works, because every comment by an author comes with a "read my novel" banner.

It is quite small, that was never the argument. You made the claim that there are more authors than readers here and now you are trying to invalidate any data that suggests there are readers here. Every single post you make makes you sound even more unscrupulous.

I'd expect a native, organically grown audience of at most 30 followers and/or declared readers. to have accumulated over the course of posting a complete book (or in the more common scenario of webnovel never-ending-stories, say a hundred chapters).

Sure, if you don't post smut on SmutHub the chances of you getting the 500-1,500 readers per chapter (like the 4 stories I posted earlier) are low.

That little website has around 80,000 registered members, give or take.

There are also unregistered readers. I lurked on both sites for years before I decided I liked this one enough to make an account here.

Over the past couple months, I've posted a complete novel at that other site with two 'R's. It has three (!!!) unsolicited reviews, nearly 100 comments, around 10 ratings (not including myself), and 26 followers. I consider it to be vastly successful.

Yes, you are doing somewhat well for yourself. Much better than the author we were discussing earlier.
