Oh my word, you're playing into Netflix's hands by even thinking about this. They did it on purpose! They got this Sundance indie foreign film, probably overpaid for it and wanted to make sure people saw it. They knew it was a movie that criticizes the oversexualization of young women and took that to the extreme with the marketing in order to start a Big Conversation, like they always do. Now, everyone in the world knows about this dang movie and it's going to be a huge hit.

They do this constantly, stoking controversy and trying to make each of their movies and series explode in some different way. 13 Reasons Why was their big one, causing mass condemnation and sometimes support and overall gaining tons of new viewers. That Marie Kondo show had strange outrage about Kondo's core organization philosophy that got tons of new viewers. That Tiger King show & Making a Murderer show started big true crime debates. Their Amy Schumer comedy special was designed specifically to incite angry responses. And they have used representation of queer characters in Orange is the New Black and She-Ra as huge marketing gimmicks.

Every thread like this is just more publicity for the movie.

Also, as for Cuties....I don't even get why that thread was even a thing. Boo hoo kiddos were being showed inappropriately in a movie that had nothing to do with sexualizing them. It looked like it, but that wasn't what is was supposed to be about. Kinda like how I was on this weird debate thing the other day on an unrelated site about how Bill Clinton was a good or bad president,....but all anyone could seem to remember about him was that he got a blowjob in the oval office.

People are stupid. We don't stick to the main thread of a discussion because once it becomes an obvious loss for us, we switch the topic to something similar but easier to win verbally.

Or you know, just fuck you, fuck me, and fuck us and fuck everybody. That works too.

Also, what the hell is it with people and wanting to be heroes/white knights/etc. etc.? If you're on the internet for any decent length of time...you're not a hero and m,ost likely never will be. So shut the hell up. The only one you're fooling is yourself.

I think that nobody looks good in battles like these because it isn't a fight that anyone can win, because there isn't a reasonable goal or outcome that can be reached, and if there is no one is making it clear what it is. Netflix can't go back in time and not make the movie, the most that they can do is not release it, which will just create a demand for it, which will just result in it being leaked online like with most other controversial things.

I think that, as writers of stories, blogs, and comments, it's so easy to develop this arrogance. It's easy to develop a God complex when you are literally God when you write your epic fantasy story, or even just a simple romance story. It's easy to view yourself as a very smart person who knows what's best for everyone when you've written a 500-word blog post that a couple people agree with. It's easy to think that you aren't a narcissist if you think: "Well, I actually hate myself and have low self-esteem. But, at least I acknowledge my faults, and use critical thinking, which makes me better than all of the other sheeple."

However, I think that we need to be better. We need to acknowledge that these mindsets are toxic and we need to call them out when we see them, rather than reward people who have them. We need to be more selective about which battles we fight, as well as how we fight them.

Rant over. I'm aware of the hypocrisy.

Well....the thing is sometimes being quiet...is powerful..don't open your mouth when your life and reputation is the hand of others..retreat and strike in the best moment. A critical hit is enough.

Also don't argue with a fool because they will take you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm just trying to figure out how to do this banner thing and seeing if it works dont mind me
The title doesn't pop much, compared with the dice.

It also feels a bit stretched.

As for the topic of this thread...I don't even get what it's about since I don't recall seeing any white-knighting happening in the toxic writers thread since it was about a mobile dating sim that featured toxic writers.

Assuming you were referring to:

my first real interaction with the wider community seemed to be a bunch of people jumping into defend a user like a bunch of white knights, or "nice guys."

This is a reference to a certain thread that the OP posted about their story (under a different username). Said thread and account is already deleted, but what happened was the person posted an advertisement for their story, @TypeAxiom typed in ":blob_blank:" and the OP accused TypeAxiom of giving him a one star on his story by replying it's not nice to give people one stars (or something like that). Someone else responded that it wasn't nice to accuse people of giving one stars. The OP responded with the reason why they thought TypeAxiom did in fact, give them a one star, which was that he got a one star rating within a minute of Axiom's message, and that they checked TypeAxiom's profile and saw that he was guilty of making a face and rating a one star on other novels. Anyone who knows about how SH works would obviously question this, since that's not how profiles work, so I asked the OP about which profile they are looking at, and a link of the evidence.

This is when the OP "blew up" and started putting the word "fuck" quite a bit, and also changed the thread title to something like fuck this site or something and saying that they would delete the account and thread. Anyways, this is when I stopped reading the thread carefully and stopped responding, but I believe that other people basically saying that the OP was jumping to conclusions with the accusation, or telling the OP that SH is a welcoming community, don't leave because of a one star, keep writing and ignore it, etc.

So yeah, that's the background behind that. (and I assume also why they named themselves "TheGuyThatEveryoneHates")

Maybe it's just me but I think the internet it just a terrible place to try and have an argument, mostly do to the ease at which misunderstandings can occur. I mean the second most important thing to what you say is the tone you say it in and tone doesn't transfer to text well.
Dunno but people nowadays love punching straws.
