Anyone using "serious" cover instead of anime girl?

I haven't read your story, but the way you write seems engaging. Personally, I've never even considered using an anime girl or anime-whatever as a cover... I mean, why would I? Unless I decide to write something anime related, I guess. But your cover made perfect sense, considering the title. I mean you got a Japanese term in your title lol. But then I read some, and I am now confused. Your MC is a guy... Well, I'd have to read the story to make a proper assessment, as I've got no clue about who that is on the cover and what their surroundings mean. It's an otherwise good art.

I need to admit, whenever I see an anime girl cover, click on it, only to realize that the protagonist is male, I kinda feel scammed.
Usually, I like the cover to at least give me an idea about the story. I think for it to be a good story the cover should match the atmosphere. That can be a lighthearted anime cover.
Though, I suppose anime girls catch views.

I have one reader that advised me to change my cover into a "more serious" one; apparently, my current cover (above) is too anime-ish for Historical- Warfare genre. He said a lot of "serious" readers won't be interested in such cover.

Now, I'm not sure at all. Does anyone have experience using a "serious" cover instead of an anime girl?

I do use non anime covers, but I would disregard the comment. Whatever you feel is the best for your cover should, in the end, be the cover.

I always use serious covers. But it depends on the book. I don't write in any genre that would make any anime cover appropriate. The cover should reflect the content in my view.

I'm looking at your cover, and while it does have an anime aesthetic, I'm actually reminded of Record of Lodoss War. You're fine. Pfft, and person above me seems to use KDP's Cover Creator.

I use a serious cover I drew myself (on a touchscreen computer with my fingers lol; pretty fun, reminded me of kindergarten). I don’t use an anime one because 1 I can’t draw anime 2 it does not fit the style of the story and 3 non-gendered characters and such subtleties would probably be lost if I tried using AI
