Anyone has this reading problem?

For some reason, reading has become hard for me. I have to understand each word just to get my reading flowing, or I have to read them out loud to visualize the story or sentences. Staring at this one word makes it even worse since it starts to become like a weird unfathomable piece of text. Everyone knows that weird phenomenon where, for example, the longer you stare at the word “Normal,” the more incomprehensible it looks, even though you perfectly know the meaning.

Yeah. Reading is hard now. Unless I try too hard to focus.

Is English your mother's tongue? Do you have troubles when reading other languages or is it just limited to English?

Well, no, but I’m more proficient in English than my native tongue—it’s just that I’ve lost that continuous smooth reading flow. It feels like I’m memorizing the story instead of actually enjoying it. Since I don’t read any other languages, you could say it’s limited to English.
I don't have such a problem.

There are some instances when I find it hard to read, as in it’s not as smooth as before. But, then I just just keep on reading until I start to get in the flow again.

Reading is heavily depended on your mood. If you feel down or stressed, you’ll find reading become quite a chore. It’s hard. It’s not fun.

Though, when you‘re inspired, reading feels like magic. It hypnotizes you and put you in a trance-like state, and it feels so good to the point that you feel like you can reach an orgasm if you keep on going.

I suggest you go outside and get some fresh air or go do something else for a while. Try to clear your mind. Go watch movies, play games, interact with people, watch your dog step on a bee, or whatever. Relax your mind. Get inspired and then come back to read again.

Have fun~ ✌?

I have had that problem when I tried to read when I was super tired, haven't had my coffee, when I was on cold medicine, and on one occasion when I was battling some mild depression.
So my recommendation is get a good night's sleep, drink something with some caffeine, make sure you are getting all your B vitamins and spend about 15 minutes a day in direct sunlight. If you are on any medication check for side effects. If your Brain fog persists or gets worse check with your doctor.

no i don't. my suggestion is to download a bunch of audiobooks, through entirely legal means ofc ; )

at least for me as a non-native hermit at times a word read sounds different in the mind then when it spoken(like bestiary, i always think best-iary but heard it pronounced beast-iary which makes total sense), and audio is a great way to develop a more varied menagerie of inner voices.

This sounds like burnout. Are you stressed irl or have consumed a lot of written media lately?

Better give yourself a break.

...Have you been reading only web novels and/or translations of web novels? Because this happened to me when I read a lot of those.

I would highly recommend picking up a physical published book every now and then to refresh yourself of what proper English looks like.

If that's not the case, it sounds like you've got either stress, sleep, or some other health problem. You should probably go see a doctor in that case.
