I don't know if this will help, but so far (out of the ones I've played), there are 2 JRPGs where the protagonist's child became the next protagonist in the same game. Both of them allows the player choose which girl to marry too.

In Agarest, it's to continue the story, as the protagonist's bloodline is tasked with fulfilling a prophecy, so after the current protagonist gets married and have a kid, that kid will be the next protagonist and a new generation/phase begins. The kid would then have a kid of his own (when he marries the girl you romanced), and that kid becomes the next protagonist. The cycle will last until the story is concluded, which varies by game.

As for Rune Factory 2, it's a moderate spoiler but it might be something to look forward to:
