Amazon KDP page limitations suck!

Finally, I have just finished all that I needed to get my first book onto Amazon KDP but sadly, the most pages allowed is 550 per book. Mine is 677 so I have to now figure out how to split it into two books without diluting the story. That also means getting another book cover made up. I can remove a few pages of content but most of the content is crucial to the story in the future and currently. Any thoughts on how I can get out of having to split the book or remove crucial information? If not, that's fine. Though at the very least, can someone explain why they can't do more pages? I do see how splitting the book can be more profitable but I feel like it takes away from the experience of the story.

If it was physical publishing, I would understand having to limit the pages. But KDP is E-Books only right?

I have no idea why they want to limit the pages, hopefully things will go well for you, best of luck.

It is physical publishing. KDP has both hardback, paperback, and audiobooks as well. They don't limit the E-books.

Ah, I see. Then it might be for storage, space or even shipping.

Having a maximum standard usually makes shipping easier and more efficient as they don't need to adjust to every single book everytime.

I hope you can solve this and publish the book as you want it to be. Good luck!

How do you physically publish a book?
Look up Amazon KDP/Kindle, it's the most common way to publish a book officially.

How do you get a book physically published?
You upload your manuscript, book cover, and fill out a bunch of information on the Amazon KDP website. Then you choose a price and release date. You can then get some promo copies to check for inconsistencies before actually publishing.

There are examples of serialized books that are quite short and not self contained.
Like that everyone is a returnee
I would advise to try to space the second book to come out around a month after the first to maximize the promotion.

I had no clue there was a page limit.

I'm not sure how feasible this is, but what comes to mind is releasing them as X: Part One, and X: Part Two at the same time, somewhat overpriced, and also having an ongoing deal with both of them where you get both which is heavily discounted enough to make most people go for it.

KDP is print on demand. Basically, 550 is a limit of the printer machines they have that print the book when someone clicks buy.

This is indeed a hard limit. The only way to make it one book is to go to a publishing company and convince them to take on your book instead.

Best of luck Paul, you've put in a lot of work, looks like you've got a bit more ahead of you.

Either split them into part one and two and bolster the page count with omake/extras or filler or don't give them extra content. But it looks like there's no way around the hard limit of 550.

Did you try making the print font smaller? The more words you have, the more exponential the effect. Just have to cover the most basic solutions before moving on with options.
That's what I was going to say!

Not necessarily. You can go directly to a printing press, but you'll likely have to get 1,000 minimum books.

Wait what. My books are 700 pages long? The new one coming up is like 750? Where did you get that number?

@EDIT:
Though I guess my paperbacks have currently 636 as the biggest. Max paperback page limit is like 830 pages tho.

Was it an E-book? E-books have no page limit. The physical copies do though. Paperbacks are up to a maximum of 828. The hardcovers are limited to 550. Here's the Amazon KDP website explaining the different trim sizes and page limits for each. https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834180

I will do paperback as well as E-book but I'm struggling with the fact that I really want some hardcovers.

try local printers? it might be worth it if you only want a small quantity, but then you need to storage and ship them yourself...
