I've wrote my novel for about a year now, and in the process uploaded it to a lot of websites.(including this platform) but where ever I upload it there's never actually coherent criticism. People will say it's good/bad And that's it. In order to improve you'd need to actually be pointed out that, this part isn't working well, or wait isn't that a continuity error. Is everyone else facing the same problem, if not what am I doing wrong?

Idk maybe what you are doing wrong is not posting on RoyalRoad. And if you already posted on RR and didn’t get those heart wrenching reviews, then you must be a really good author.

Man I really don't want to say it, but your story has 1 Reader. That should be yourself. Your story might have some views but these are probably your own and the people who clicked on it and decided not to read it. Forget Feedback, even with 1.8k readers I barely get Feedback. Most comments are either a few emotes or TFTC.

There is no real incentive for people to offer you detailed and useful feedback. Like the others suggested, your best bet is to ask for feedback in a thread. On RR you could always do Review Swaps but these sort of Reviews are always either Fake or AI Reviews.

Yeah in this website I recently uploaded this story so I wouldn't expect getting any views much less what I already have(and that one uhm, come on. someone's gotta support me??) but jokes aside. in other websites for a example webnovel.com I have like 30k views yet 0 reviews. that's why I asked, is it normal for that to happen and is it the same here

WN views are inflated. Press F5 for 5 minutes and you have 2k more views. Also Webnovel counts views differently. You need to check your effective readers in Inkstone to get an accurate number.

Anyway you need to press on. Took my story like 70 to 80 chapters to get some sort of Traction. Just keep writing. Frankly, most people only start a new story if they can at least read fifty chapters or so.

Comments, reviews, feedback, critique are not really the same in my opinion.

Feed back you can ask on forums

Critique you really have to find some you trust and willing to listen to and the person is willing dpend the time to unpack your work and write the critique.

Yeah sadly everyone person you can ask nowadays for an actual critique is behind a pay wall? like they read four chapters and be like, pay me for my time?

The problem is that there are tens of thousands of free stories. The number of stories has grown so much that people can literally cherrypick the exact story they want to read. They also prefer estsblished authors with a proven track record and a reliable upload schedule. I have been burned myself and only start reading when I see a large number of chapters, uploaded at a fast and consistent rate. Too many authors drop their stories.

Why not ask a colleague, friend, or family member to critique your work? I've heard of some authors doing this.

Alternatively, you could conduct a comparative study of your work with others to gauge how well your narrative performs.

No problem. If you're using chatgpt or another chatbot, it's best to use the limited (temporary) chat feature, which doesn't save your conversations, as it doesn't assume any previous history has been saved. This way, chapter assessments can be more objective.

Also, get into the habit of using neutral, objective questions instead of biased, answer-driven questions.

For example, an objective question might be, "How was the pacing of this chapter?"

An example of a biased question might be, "Is the pacing of this chapter too slow?"

Honestly GPT should be the last thing you do. Just ask someone else to read your story and offer to read theirs in return.

Yeah I kinda already do that usually using the incognito type thingy in the chat bot. And true asking objective questions leads to actually factual responses/information

True but I don't really know any others that way?

You don't get feedback from readers, you can only seek feedback from beta-readers, editors, or fellow authors.

A normal reader who doesn't write won't be able to give constructive pointers. There may be, but why should they give it? Unless it's so disastrous bad that they rage write an essay, it's unlikely that you get the feedback you need.

That is true. You get a lot of comments for particularly good or bad writing. Average gets ignored.

You have 2 followers on RR and 1 reader here on SH(which is yourself). people can have 100 times that and not get any reviews or ratings.
