In my world, partly as a veil over the fact that I myself am not an airtight designer, have my system created by an outer god that is beta testing it and refining it for sale to a market of divine avatars and reincarnations of other deities. Successful testers that provide good data are appointed as GMs to provide more data in an infinitely recurring afterlife of game development.
The main antagonist got access to the system some time after the MC explicitly because the game masters noted that MC was on a trajectory to become god king of everything ever (in his local multiverse at least) and more importantly he wasn’t looking likely to provide data other than “Yep. He definitely likes sleeping with his girlfriend.” And “generally disapproves of genocide and slavery, and is capable of reducing such things through his own actions.” Main antagonist is a dragon archmage who noticed the MC doing… something… and started studying him and kinda started hacking into the system until he was integrated in as a second player. Time to test PVP.

And just keep at it, improvement comes ahead the more we keep at it with passion.

Let me tell a few example of stories that already did (and surexploited to death bc of competition)

1) Betrayal from system
Justice system series where MC later on destroyed / absorbed it. Because from what is telling a helper : the system became sentient, stole part of the rewards (hence why lately despite harsh missions the rewards grow proportionally less) and even had goal to control him when stronger

2) Wrong sending
Didn't read them but to name them :
2.1) women clothing system = MC get stronger if he wear them but he is male coughtrapcough
2.2) justice system to a bad guy
2.3) evil system to a MC, but somehow every evilness he does, it turn out they are good actions (like killing a popular good merchand turns out to be a slave trader)
2.4) mage system to someone that train muscles
etc etc
2.5) and finally lately there is the popular plot of "i am already at maximum power level in this world, and only now you appear/activate!?"
(example, most famous arch mage MC, first reward is fireball spell, and tasked to go to magic school entrance exam)

3) Enslaved system
MC is already op, so when it appear, directly control it
or system beg MC to do tasks

4) Royalroad series, system is a cunning trap to humanity
where the system activate for all humans but in fact its a product from a "another dimension race alien"
Cliche story of rebirth to the past after humanity lost / last team of strong people and MC sent to the past by teammate
And the system, despite being op and allowing to buy anything with "coins"
is sweet slow poison
Because it destroy the currency system of the planet used on (one past planet is mentioned as an example explanation)
as compared to "system coin currency" you can get ANYTHING, guns, drugs, tv, food
AND
best way to get COINS is by killing monsters BUT ALSO KILLING OTHER HUMANS

5) System is a product of gods

6) System is a product from future self

7) System is a product of "omnipotent watchers" that judge if a race is worthy to stay alive (and MC being the test subject analyzed by his actions)

8) Disease (schyzophrenia)
A royalroad trolling series (very short series). MC is a barista (coffee maker).
The system is an illusion hallucination from MC
The author basically make MC faint (again) and MC mention the system, that disappeared, doctor tell him that its just hallucination, and that any infos of how a good coffee is made is probably because he saw the info somewhere but ignored/forgot. Same as the lemon cake he did.
ps : yes it is truly hallucination and not doctor being wrong
ps ps : the system first appeared after the MC hit his head / fainted / awakened

9) Self made system
machine? spirit spell ? magic contruction/spell ?
net magic lines over the world ?
chip in brain?
AI that follow him?
summon a devil that will create a system status window ?

9.5) Fake system
A current ongoing series where the cultivator MC succeed to self hypnotize himself of the existence of the system. ----------------Because as you know it, often MCs in general mention the positive points of seeing numerical numbers OR/AND having proof that skills get better after training compared to not knowing, hence giving motivation to continue unlike other trainees.
--------So this MC created this (fake) system all to become motivated. Seeing +1+1+1+1xp by training is enjoyable, and the "rewards" are simply his own body getting stronger by training.

Personal rant incoming: "single-person" systems are a terrible plot device mostly used to force the plot to move to places the author has no other idea to move it to.

Anyway. In most stories systems are just set up to be a plot device for easy power gain, so there's no need to reject or disable those things, right? Outside of characters losing their sense of morals, society or the ability to compare stuff unless there's some arbitrary number on it. But who needs stuff like that, right?

Now if the system is a bit more intrusive, like in "Banished from the Hero party" where your class is more like a primal urge things would be different. The system there is pretty neurotic. Heros gotta hero, farmers gotta farm. Even if they don't want to. At least that much would be needed before a normal person would even think about questioning a free gift.

If you want your MC to outright reject the system you either need it to actively work against them or have a big enough minus attatched so they don't want it. Like giving a harem creation system to a monogamous person (that stays this way during the story). Or giving a "bonus for every step taken" to a person without legs or a "be polite and helpful" system to your typical chinese MC.

I wonder, maybe its just me.....but has anyone ever been curious if whatever higher powers that usually provides the famous System thing made a mistake/chose the wrong individual?

As in they don't listen/follow missions/somehow disable the System features or the System abandoned them out of fear etc.

Personally in my opinion, i've always been kind of sus about Systems, seems a wee bit too convenient sometimes. At the very least make it interesting dang it! have some penalties to balance or whatever to balance things out! make certain stuff be either a one time use/permanent stat loss so it would have more meaning!

I remember a novel (a weird one, reallly weird) Where the mc got reincarnated into a hamster due to the god of hamster being angry against him but the god forget to shut down the hero system before he reincarnate it, so the mc got reincarnate as a hamster with a hero system and fuck up everything.

Well that was a crazy story... I remember that the other god make fun of the hamster god for his mistake and tell him to reincarnate an "hero" but in a hamster like the mc cause it's entertaining for them.
