“Understood!” She affirmed with great gusto and became as delighted as she typically would. “I’ll have to tell that to the children back at the orphanage.“ She chuckled, “We had some specters at the graveyard behind the church. I remembered one time seeing a floating Lady with a basket sitting upon a grave marker.“ Lisette also remembered Saint Mother Lucretia reminding her that ghosts are to be treated respectfully as possible. “I just remember she looked so sad.”

So the next morning I tended to her site, cleaned up, placed some new flowers down, and a incense for prayer. I can‘t remember if she came back after that or not. Lisette thought, mostly to herself.

As Swir talked about the clocktower, it became obvious just how out of use it was. For such an amazing building, it definitely could use some sprucing up. “Dust huh? I wonder if there might be a way to repair it. Maybe it’ll help one day.” She smiled, and turned her attention to the cat at her feet.

Lisette giggled when she felt her hand get licked. Haha that tickles. “Is it’s name Cath Palug?” Lisette asked now, looking down at the cat she seemed to be disparaging.
"Mhm, that's what I call him, though he also responds to 'Oi, cat' and the like. He's quite free-spirited and does as he likes normally, but sometimes he'll bother to lend a helping hand or two. Or in his case, a helping paw."

Swir looked around. With the exception of the three of them there was no one else around, but that was normal at that hour. Then she turned towards the library once more.

"...Huh. I didn't notice this just now, but the lights are off. It's still relatively early, so there should be a few people still in there, but..."

She pulled the entrance door open. Just like she expected, the interior of the first floor was completely dark. A slight smell of lavender wafted out. Slowly, Swir withdrew another pebble and rubbed it's surface.

[Tuesday]

Indeed, her teacher did have a surprise pop quiz on making a potion first thing back. Tears filled her eyes just from the awful Smell it easily rated on the top 5 things that she would never wish to smell ever again. Why is it, the more useful something is the worse it smells or tastes!? Would it kill the people making potions to make them consumer friendly?... Or perhaps all their senses of smell and taste were already dead? Her heart filled with dread as she looked at the light green sludge in front of her. An intermediate toxin remover. Truly, people who can heal and be healed are very blessed indeed. Her teacher did indeed give her good marks on the toxin remover yet she couldn’t help but wonder if being poisoned was worse than the cure.

For all of her trouble she did indeed receive permission to make novice potions for others to consume safely. Over the course of class, she produced 3 Novice healing potions. Her professor allowed her to keep her first one as a commemoration of passing his test the rest would be stockpiled for adventuring and combat classes. She acquired an ADV Potion Making Tome for use of study. Due to her surprise quiz anyone who gets close to her will likely recoil in fright until she gets a shower.

Once her potion making class finished, she heads to … Her dorm for yet another shower. Smelling like this? Absolutely no way! To have such an awful stench… and let anyone talk or catch a wiff? She is a maiden not some kind of barbarian! She spent almost her entire lunchbreak avoiding people on her way to the dorm and subsequent shower. She grabbed a sandwich for lunch mostly to go on her way to her Herbology class.

The herbology professor is a fierce looking man, capable of strangling trees and making a boulder scream in fright. Yet when handling plants has a fine grace with no wasted movement or excessive force used. There are far more students here in herbology than Potion making. Many useful plants could be grown rather than harvested in the wild, even if they weren’t rare ingredients was an important skill to have. Especially near cities that have eliminated too much of the surrounding wildlife in favor of farms to grow food.

Some plants could even thrive off of magic slowly injected thus letting it survive as an elemental plant, though such plants were extraordinarily temperamental and even if grown correctly would be an inferior version of one found in the wild.

Yurei received an 8x8 plot of land and decided to plant Goreroot seeds. Goreroot is a useful herb for coagulating blood when applied to an open wound as a powder and covered in a compress. After mixing the soil and was satisfied with the quality she planted her seeds and watered them.

ADV Magic swordsman training when about as well as one might expect. On one hand there were a lot of guys. On the other hand while they all had an absolute blast competing and fighting with one another. The friendships between men are just…

When doing the obstacle course Yurei applied some dark magic under her skirt so any would be lucky viewer wouldn’t get to see anything. Perhaps that is why some of them looked down after she finished her course. She was around the midpoint in terms of speed for the class.

After her Swordsman training she headed to the changing area and got herself wiped down with a towel for the sweat she worked up. Afterwards she headed to the library for the rest of the evening.

OOC: wew. that look a while.

“Now that you mention it,” Lisette stood up, allowing the cat to freely walk with them or not. “It is darker than usual.”

As they approached the Library, the door that opened into the entry was indeed darkened. Lisette stepped forward, her eyes tracing the light from within Swir’s palm as she glanced around the darkened interior of the room. She remembered what the layout should have looked like when it was daylight, but nighttime seemed to have a completely different feel.

“It smells like lavender. I don’t remember it smelling like this before.” It was more of an obvious statement as she followed close behind Swir. It wasn’t like she was scared, but more on the cautious side of things now that something—weird was happening.

“Wouldn’t the Head Librarian have double checked the building to be empty before blowing out all the candles? Also if it were empty, and if no one is inside, why is the front door still left open?” Lisette looked at the door with interest once they got inside the building.

A pair of Orange Will-o wisps appear from around the darkened shelves. They move slowly their ghostly fire burning softly in the dark library. A formless ghost follows behind floating in the air between the shelves. The Wisps get bigger...

"Oh, Guests. This late at night?" The Darkness seems to slowly recede and the light takes on a larger area as around the will-o wisps a circular cage is formed. Or rather. Glasses become visible as Yurei steps closer towards the light.

"Best I can figure is that he's still somewhere in the Library, maybe dozing off, and told the last person to leave to wake him up or something, but perhaps they forgot and left directly...?"

The cat didn't seem to have followed them. It sat at the entrance, acting like a cat and grooming itself. Perhaps it didn't like enclosed spaces.

"At any rate, we'll have to light the---"

"...Ah, Yurei, it's you. Nearly gave me a heart attack."

Swir chose not to mention the fact that she'd almost instinctively activated an attack rune, and slid the pebble back into her pocket. She then turned to address her fellow library user.

"Did the other students all go back to their dorms? And where's the Head Librarian?"

Lisette could see the mistake that could have easily occurred, she turned around to face Swir now, and found a pair of orange colored spectacles lit up with strange wispy fires. The first year blinked before tilting her head to Swir.

Yurei? I don’t think I know who that is. She looked down to the small lady standing before them.

“Someone you know Swir?“ Lisette appeared confused. She leaned down to sniff the girl, half expecting the smell of lavender. Only she wasn’t emitting the odor that was so fragant.

No, she doesn’t smell like Lavender. This is really going to bug me. Lisette turned her attention up and started sniffing the air once more. She was determined to find the source of what was making that smell.

"I was just closing up fol tonight. The head liblalian had to leave eally tonight. And yes I am the last one hele."

As she comes closer the 'wispy fire' that her eyes were making turns out just to be her eyes reflecting the light from the rune + her glasses.

"What ale you doing here Swil?"

The 'formless ghost from earlier turned out just to be her tail...

"I'm also the Liblaly committee membel, a thild yeal, Yurei. Pleased to make youl acquaintance. I am usually hele alound this time of night."

"Yes, she's a fellow third-year student, and a frequent patron of the library, much like me. Sometimes she stays here overnight, though I've only gotten properly acquainted this morning."

Swir kept an eye on Lisette even while she was speaking to Yurei.

Swir glanced at Lisette, hoping the girl would back her up on that claim.

"Still, don't let us keep you, Yurei. I'll lock up in your stead, so if you're feeling tired, you can go ahead and leave first. We'll be fine here, and I'll pass the keys back to the Head Librarian tomorrow morning."

Lisette looked back to the third year Yurei. “It’s nice to meet you too. My name is Lisette, I’m a first year. It’s true that I am here to revise for a class project overnight.” She sheepishly brought forth her bag, practicing the line Swir told her in case they got caught by someone. She graciously backed up their claim with as much truth as she could muster. She did bring work to do just in case. “Swir was kind enough to accompany me since I’m still new to our campus. Please take care of me in the future.” She bowed politely to Yurei.

Her tail—and ears—they look so soft and cute and adorable—no no Lisette get your head out of your butt and focus on the main prize.

And besides, at this point they were breaking curfew. And if this person was the library committee member, that would mean more trouble later on if they got caught sneaking around not doing what they were supposed to.

Something seems... off... Yurei looks at Swir suspiciously, "So... Why did you not come eallier? And... So close to culfew... hmmm?" She pushes up her glasses and looks at the first year student, "You shouldn't pick up such bad habits so eally on. The leason the liblaly is locked ovelnight is that people stay away flom the..." She leans forwards to Lisette "leally scaly things hele... If you have found the teachels to be stlict so fal... this liblaly has ghosts as well. Books hult mole than chalk."

She lightly bops Lisette on the head with her tail. "The Liblaly is not a good place at night if you don't know whele not to go."

And surprise surprise, Yurei didn't fall for it. Then again, Swir had to admit that she picked a rather flimsy excuse, so it seemed like she was going to have to come clean. Motioning for Lisette to wait a bit after passing her the light rune, Swir dragged Yurei behind a nearby bookshelf. She then pulled out a piece of paper and started writing in runes.

'We've both been around this place long enough to know that it houses one of what most would call 'The Seven Wonders of the Academy', Yurei. I told Lisette earlier that ghosts are harmless, and that's generally correct. Then there's the cases where someone, namely me, has to do the suppression behind the scenes to keep things in check, and I'm pretty sure you've seen what the Library Ghost can do if it's left to it's devices for too long.'

After a bit more, she added one more line.

'Besides, you know as well as I do that the Head Librarian never once burned incense. The smell of flowers means that thing has reappeared, no?'

Lisette felt the soft poof on top of her bowed head and blissfully smiled. It—it was as soft as it looked.

The first year pulled herself up from her bow and gave a gracious smile. “Thank you for your advise Senior Yurei, I will keep those words deep in my mind and heart.“

Lisette was on her own as Swir pulled Yurei aside. She waited patiently by the door before the smell of lavender became more potent.

And to be honest, I think the chalk hurt way more since it was obvious that teacher laid a power spell behind that toss. She stopped to smell the room once again. It was clear that lavender still filled this space.

Lavender shouldn’t be this fragrant. If it was an incense, it should only be in that vicinity, but why does it seem like it’s moving away from the entrance. Lisette started to move away from the door, and follow the scent. She knew the layout of the first floor well enough, and Swir would be able to find her easily with her light.

Where is that smell coming from.

Lisette moved further into the library.

"Mm, just be caleful"

Yurei sighs and looks back at Swir. She reaches around the back of her neck to take off an old flower like keychain. The key is glowing with an eerie light.

"Plotect yes?"

She hands the key over to Swir.

Yurei takes a few steps backwards to the point where only her eyes are visible before vanishing into the darkness. The front door of the library slams shut and the bolt turns over and locks

ooc: with that in mind I am gonna make like Yurei might do once things are well in hand and sleep.

Monday:

  • Magic I:

Obviously. Eudes slept through the class and did not listen to anything-- actually, it was wrong, he only fell asleep after forty minutes! He even wrote lines, the pencil was surprisingly light. Just for this, Eudes was feeling proud of himself. In any case, from what he heard, the youth did not have many troubles with the concept of magic. Likely due to novels and lore from games he has played. Then, came the issue of practice... let's think about that later.
Anyway, he had a nice nap. Once he woke up, he took a quick lunch at the cafeteria and left.
  • Enchantment I:
Enchantment was slightly more difficult to understand. However, it feels... practical. Considering how many fights he got into, having enchanted items to beat up people seemed wonderful. Thus, this time, Eudes did not fall asleep. Of course, he was late. But considering how attentive he was, the teacher seemed not to mind it.
  • Combat I:
Now is where Eudes will be most troublesome. As it is the start of the year, the teacher decided to force the students to practice stances
"Goodness lord... You will get detention Saturday for two hours. "
"I didn't do it on purpose, I didn't think they would be so fr--"
"No excuses."
After a minute or so, they stopped arguing. What exactly happened? To summarize, Eudes was paired with someone and... overworked them? Every time they stopped, Eudes would urge to get up and continue the exercises. He didn't expect someone to faint so quickly! That's their fault for being we-- wait no, maybe his sister chose the wrong class, after all? Isn't Combat I for beginners?

  • Principles of Darkness:
Now came a troublesome class. For sure, it sounded edg-- Eudes cleared his throat and arrived late. Immediately, the teacher stared at him and began to teach the class. In all honesty, Eudes thought about what other 'Principles of' courses he could take. Surprisingly enough, he thought that Darkness was the most suitable one. As for why? The others didn't seem... convenient somehow. Likely because he did not know much about how magic worked down here, he thought that: Using fire magic in a cold environment? Using water/ice/whatever magic in a hot environment? Using wind magic in a cramped place? And so on, so forth.
All of these seemed like they could not be used in every situation. In the meantime, Darkness is more... abstract or so he thought. As cheesy as it sounds, they could speak of someone's "dark side." Thus, maybe it can affect one's psyche? If, for example, he could force someone to lose focus during a fight, that would make every quarrel much easier.
  • Crafting & Synthesis I:
What did he do? Poison. Thanks to the books he read, he already had an idea on how to Synthesise and thus barely listened to the class as he fell asleep during it. Hell, the teacher woke him up, asked a question and he correctly replied. Honestly? He forgot to socialise that same day.

Now that it was evening, Eudes thought about the whole day and--
"That's not so bad... guess that's useful enough."
Though, he did receive two hours of detention. Wait, it meant that he could not go home Saturday, doesn't it?!
"Ah, let's just go to sleep."

Of course, he forgot to eat dinner.

OOC: And now onwards to Tuesday.

"Mm, just be caleful"
-------
Yurei sighs and looks back at Swir.

"Understood."

Swir slid the key onto a keychain of her own, and sighed.

Okay, that's that. With the entrance sealed, all I'll need to do is to suppress the Library Ghost, then we can go and listen to the piano and call it a night...

Swir had backtracked to where she'd told Lisette to wait. The only problem was that the girl was nowhere to be found, and the faint scent of lavender still lingered in the air.

...Verdammt. You'd think a glowing rune would be obvious, but the shelves have a way of blocking out indirect light.

She activated another light rune and started deeper into the Library's first floor as well. As for her free hand...it was wrapped securely around an attack rune.

Lisette found herself amongst several towering bookshelves filled with all kinds of spines of tomes and books she hadn’t seen before. The light emanating from within her palm gave off a pale imitation of sight beyond a five foot space. As she turned around the corner of a bookshelf, the scent of lavender strengthened, and she stopped.

A chill went down her spine. Some very scary things — She could hear Yurei in her mind as she dared to look up.

“Ahh!” She yelped, as the several books landed on top of her. She managed to cover her head in time, but man that was smarts. The scent of lavender drifted away.

“Ouch!”

Swir heard both of Lisette's cries, and sighed. She knew enough about the entity in the Library to tell what it was going to do next, and sure enough...

"Ahh!"

"Ouch!"

"Ahh!"

The cries begun echoing from various directions. Added to the reverb from the acoustics of the library, it was impossible to determine the source of the actual cries using her ears alone.

First it plays with it's prey.

The good news was that only herself and Lisette were within the premises of the Library, and the doors were enchanted to keep the spirit in. The bad news, on the other hand...

This will have to work on the first try.

"Lizzy, squeeze your eyes shut and drop the runestone!"

At the same time her hands moved, sending the light rune in her hands flying. It had several more runes carved onto it.

Lisette heard Swir, but actually being able to do so was a completely different matter. She shuffled from underneath a large pile of books, moving to a more open space, and felt things shifting around her. Books continued to drop all around her, and she could see the shelves start to shake, almost as if something was trying to knock them over her.

She grabbed a book from the ground, to use as a shield from further projectiles dropping in from above and the sides.

And then there was wind—no not wind — air, a sweet smelling scent that curled around her neck and made her shiver as if she forgot her jacket on the coldest day.

Come play with me kekekekekeeeee

Oh helllllllllllll no

Lisette squeezed her eyes shut and dropped the runestone to the ground. She could feel books pelting her as she did so.

It took almost no time at all for the second light rune to collide with the first; that made a lot of sense, considering that Swir had released it before Lisette had dropped hers. The two runestones clicked softly as they met.

Then there was a blinding light, briefly intense enough to rival the sun, illuminating the surroundings, followed by an enraged hissing noise. The putrid presence was already closing in once more, but Swir --- who had followed her flying stone compass --- struck faster.

"Gandr."

The crimson orb sent something sprawling across the floor, and in that moment Swir was standing before Lisette, a wand in one hand and a rune in the other.

"That was too damned close, Lizzy."

Lisette still had her eyes closed, but her senses were on overload. Sweet scent — soft clicking of stones - intense light she just knew had enveloped the area — and what felt like hands wrapping around her wrists to yank her forward

But it was gone as the command word: Gandr was spoken. Lisette opened her eyes as she stared up at her rescuer to be.

”Lesson learned, won’t do that again!” Lisette chirped, shakily raising her hand up to salute, her legs shaking slightly as she thought Yeah, that was a bit too close to home.

“I’m guessing this one was an exception?” The first year looked around to find several books and tomes scattered on the ground. Luckily none of them seemed damaged.
