A: Do you think my stories are boring?

B: You want the truth?

A: No. I’m already scared of what you’ll say. But that’s how people grow, right?

B: Your novels are missing that hook...the thing that grabs readers, keeps them on the edge of their seats.

A: I know. But I can’t write like that. Is something wrong with me?

B: I don’t know. Maybe.

A: Should I quit this too?

B: You’ve quit so many things. Motorcycle lessons, you stopped. That new language, the violin...you gave up on those too. And the gym? You were making progress, then you stopped going. Remember your dream of becoming a diplomat? Have you thought about quitting that as well?

A: Oh no. How could I? It’s all I have. It’s all she has.

B: Who? Your mother?

A: Yeah. She would die.

B: So you’re not doing it for yourself?

A: Mostly for her. If I had my way, I’d lie down on green grass, breathe in the smell, and stare at the sky. I’d go to the mountains. Wander through cities in unknown countries. Eat delicious homemade food. Maybe even fall in love.

B: What’s stopping you from doing all that?

A: That damn dream.

Just about the writing: I think it isn't necessary to be great at it. Of course, getting something really popular done is some form of gratification, but what is important about it is that you like it. What you need is something that you really want to write about. Some story that you like to develop. Whose intricacies are something that fascinate you.
In my case, I am not even native to the language I write in. I don't have any delusions that I'll ever write with perfect prose like those five or even just one percent on top. Yet my story interested some people. By now, I even improved so much that I often read in comments how fine it is. I write very simple English, and that's fine. For webnovels, simplicity is even good, because it's easy to follow. Just try not to commit any writing sins, like repeating the same formulations over and over. If you can maintain enough variety in your words, and maybe try looking up synonyms at times this works as a writing level. Now, if you have just anything original that you find interesting enough to write about, this should work.
It would be wrong to go about it expecting to make it big, but if you keep at your story, you might garner someone's interest. And already the idea that someone regularly takes the time to read what I wrote and deems it a pleasant time investment is worth the effort, in my opinion.

You are right. Thanks buddy. Your words are indeed helpful. Well, recently I have been demotivated by something. And I was sitting alone in the dark, that's when I struck up this conversation with myself. I tend to do that a lot.
