Under this definition a spoiled brat would be considered strong.
It's kind of a retarded position to take.
you present a 3rd kind of strength: Strength of wallet.

so we have strength of body (physically strong)
We have strength of mind (Stubborn)
And we now have strength of wallet (spoiled).

of the lot... I'd say strength of wallet wins. more often than not, IRL, the rich can just by plenty of type 1 to fight for them and plenty of type 2 to plan it.

What makes a character strong? Is because they can punch a brick wall? More stamina? Keep their resolve through a harsh environment? Pride? Self-worth? Can handle the worst food ever created?
Time to be that obligatory individual who states that this is a stupid question and that you know it is a stupid question.

this raises another question for me: Where is the line for plot armor?

I mean, In my universe, Manticores are very rare, VERY deadly. fast, intelligent, powerful, with a venom that's both highly toxic and highly acidic. my MC is a half-dragon (called a dragonling in my world). and due to his dragon heritage, he's immune to all toxins and venom (except 1, but that's irrelevant for now). so when he got pierced, he basically just vomited the venom and went about killing it. would that be considered plot armor, because he survived due to a freak coincidence that he just HAPPENED to be born a specific race immune to that mode of death?
Agreed. Where is the line? In my universe, there are a few ways to survive a Tormented Zone. One, be a Magical Guardian (essentially Magical Girl). Two, be so overpowered and high-level for the stage that the Tormented Zone is at that you can circumvent the dangers of a Tormented Zone. Three, be so good at manipulating your own reactions and others, while being weak as fuck in all other aspects, that you convince the Tormented Zone to leave you alone. The latter is only available to the Fae and my MC.
Actually, now that I think about it, there are other ways to survive a Tormented Zone. I suppose it's not that special, but yeah. VERY LUCKY.
a good author
This is actually a great answer. I'm happily impressed!

Becoming a masochist.
Nah but like, depends on the task they are given: can they achieve it?

An unearned strength is still a strength. Or is it?

This reminds me of that question of the difference between being strong and having strength.
There's a chinese novel that I read a long time ago.

Mc was bery weak, and he was always hiding behind a girlboss who was bery strong at that moment.

To me, that was strength.

If you can mobilize someone else for your sake, that can be considered your strength too.
The moment you can't mobilize that person for your sake, then it meant you've lost your strength. External or internal strength is a useless categorization because strength is strength, and they came in all sort of shape and form.

A character becomes strong through various reasons: trauma, friendship and hardship.

If he can punch a brick wall, endurance is a must. Pick the endurance and vitality.
Stamina is part of endurance, so make sure to make him suffer.
