Hi everyone,

I’m still relatively new to the community (been lurking for a couple of months), but I’ve been actively posting on both Scribble Hub and Royal Road. Lately, I’ve been focusing more on Scribble Hub and trying to better align my story with the tastes of the SH audience.

Surprisingly, my story here has 3x more readers than on Royal Road, which is great! But I’m running into a bit of a wall when it comes to Patreon conversion. I’ve read that newer authors on RR can get about 3–4% conversion, but despite having 800+ readers here, I’m not even seeing a 2% conversion rate.

My story mixes xianxia + deep romance + harem + occasional smut, which seems to resonate well with the SH base, but I still haven’t figured out how to get more readers to support the story financially.

Has anyone here figured out a good Patreon strategy for SH?
Whether it’s chapter pacing, bonus content, interaction, or even specific types of smut pacing that help... I’m open to any advice.

Thanks in advance!

Cheap a** b*t*rds who cannot afford to donate to several Patron accounts and therefore pick and choose who they want to follow. I am one of them, though I have no clue about your particular story. I cannot find your story through your name, as such no clue if your story is actually in the category someone would like it enough to patron it. In my case there are LOTS of stories that have your genre tags, that I would read, but not many that I would give money to support.

Since I have yet to activate my Patreon (it is set up but not activate) so not the best but...
1. Smut that does well on Patreon allegedly gets axed, smut that barely makes anything tends to survive for a good, long (and often just barely profitable) while.
2. Advertising seems to be the key to Patreons - just post links in places like this, and on social media and hope to limp along
3. Make sure you have premium content - extra chapters, side stories, something extra on the Patreon to attract paid accounts.
4. Sell side stuff - artwork, characters in the story, whatever you can think of.
5. Join a lot of other discussion groups like SubStack to discuss your experiences with Patreon and maybe try to get subscribers there as well (that's where I've gotten most of the advice above, by the way).

The harem genre has been soft-banned from the Royal Road for years.

You won't get 4% follower to subscriber ratio from that.

Here, it's much worse. The Scribble Hub allows it, but this isn't the major site which is built on this kind of monetization. You get more readers, but no one pays.

Even that 1 to 2 % on Royal Road is reserved for the rapidly growing stories atop of the algorithm.

My advice is simple: get a job.

And I'm not saying this to criticize you or your writing. The harsh truth is that the ratio between effort and profit for online literature is just not sustainable.

In other words, you'd make more money working the graveyard shift at 7/11 than writing xianxia.
