Just want people to share their experience on author who just drop 1 chap of what look like a promising story only to never posted again.

The first time it happen to me, i was suprise. Only to learn later that this was aparently.....normal ? I mean some author have their own set of problem, their own life and they don't have the duty to write for reader if they don't feel like it.

Some axed their work cause they dont like it, some lost their account, some just wanted to "test the water", and some is just one-shot but that one doesn't count. Anyway how did you find out about those 1 chap author.
They just give up

...

Shouldn't we have a three months period to see if the author has really GGed and "young, new and aspiring authors" can just swoop in, tag the OG work and in case the old author decides to delete his work, copy and paste the work into the new author's page and continuing the story?

I call it "story grafting" and will like to see what frankenstein appears in the end.

it is easy to write a chapter. It is hard to continue. to be honest, I always have great arc ideas and so forth, but when it comes to putting them on paper… well I only drag scenes, not knowing how to move forward/make progress…:sweating_profusely::blob_no:

Eh, I'm not going to post a series again unless it's complete and I'm literally going to dump chapters. The weekly updating thing here on SH that seems to be standard is also why I don't read much anymore on here. I'm used to either daily updates or at least having hundred+ chapters or completion before I start.

As someone who axed a story after just the first few chapters despite a lot of positive feedback allow me to answer this.

I started writing about almost exactly a year ago, and had much more free time then. Since then I’ve been taking twice as many classes and working whenever I have the free time, now I find I’m much more exhausted and don’t have the passion to write when I can relax by doing mindless dumb tasks like reading, watching tv, or playing video games.

I have no shortage of inspiration for stories, some of which I’ve already outlined start to finish. I’m just always too tired to write anything more than forum posts and funny ha ha comments on Reddit. Maybe if I have enough time I’ll finish a short story before I go back to school, who knows.

I feel guilty but I did write more than one even if it's not posted, is that enough of an excuse? And I plan to post again soon.

Personally, I only start reading when there's at least 3 chapters since that's where I drop what I dislike.

For me, it works in this cycle:
One day I get inspired, so I quickly write the first chapter of my new book, and publish it before stocking more materials because I have room temperature IQ, then remember my finals are in two weeks and I barely passed physics mid-terms, I forget the story while trying to find the speed of a bullet that got stuck on a wooden plate.

Tbh. I wanted to try out a story where the MC, a child, is a necromancer. But unlike most novels, his minions are old ancient human monsters, that lived centuries, milenials ago. Instead of the normal master slave relationship, a guardian-child relationship exists, as they venture through the "darkness."

However, I try to stay true to the darker elements such as, his minions having a different world view, and being unforgiving.
For example, two senior minions put the MC, a 12 year old under pressure regarding on how to deal with a fellow minion, that is mentally retarded (due to its race being more brutish).

If that novel, sounds interesting to you, just click on mah signature. :blob_popcorn:

Bunch of authors lose motivation, I guess. Most people write for fun, but when they realize that writing even 1 chapter can take hours, it might become more of a chore in their minds:blob_pat_sad:

I blame patreon/ko-fi. You see, some authors don't write to tell a story. They write to earn a buck.
Which, ok, I get it. If you spent 3-5 hours each day writing your book, or as much time as you can set aside during the week, you'd obviously want something for your sweat. Something more than lurkers, who won't even drop hearts. So, some authors publish their first chapter, get excited when they see the views from their chapter being in the latest series spotlight, and wait a day for the money.
Only to not see any the next day, or see too little. And then, they pull away their story.
Me? I want to tell stories. Yes, I have paid books, which are not here, but I have 23 series on SH, all of them complete. So, my readers know that, if I start a story, I will either finish it, or delete it. More often than not, I finish my story. :blob_cookie:

I agree that it is frustrating to find out that a story that you are reading has only one chapter published. Especially when the story looks like it has the potential to become a great story that I strongly believe I can enjoy. But I will say that such stories have helped me to become more careful in what I pick to read.
