So you will basically create a static web page? for what tho? you literally can't do anything in there it kinda will be like a blog or something .. :blob_blank:

a webpage is in free turm is a systematically configured page that helps you access data in a server connected via the web .. if you own the server then you can use it in simple terms as a connected storage drive but the data transfers will be all happening via ethernet .. right ? which most companies do as ethernet now can deliver up to 100 gb stable data via fibre optics right .. you just create a network configured to access the data via that .. but a web page do the same thing but you have to buy a domain via some company or government or the people who protect us from the dark web from general .. that will be secure domain and will can be accessible and connected to a large network nexus in simpler terms you can access it as a website through various devices .. so creating a static site that is not connected to any of this things is kinda like meh...:blob_frown:

tho it's kinda cool tho to have a personal blog type of thing with a web access portal with your name .. :blob_cookie:

Do you intend to pick up backend anytime soon?

Though, frontend may be best for now, considering that way you can leave it up to the requestor how they wish to host it afterward. (Okay you actually did take time to consider this, which, kudos)

And a reminder to whoever gets the slot: please be kind. This person probably just learned DHTML. Especially since this effort is being worked for literally free.

You're delving too deeply into this; you're over-complicating things even more than Kingdom Hearts. Those problems won't be encountered by authors in SH (mostly).

I suppose it's similar to how artists have Carrds, which serve as showcases of their art and maybe commission prices. For authors, they can have their novels posted there, showcasing what novels they have worked/working on.

About hosting, Surge is a good way to do so, especially the fact that it's free. Sure, it's for static webpages only, but static webpages doesn't mean you can't interact with the page at all. (Besides, blogs aren't bad, I've read multiple fantranslation through blogs and it's more than acceptable)

good luck op. and you don't really need a backend. use serverless functions. they're easy and simple to integrate. its basically a json dump. vercel and firebase offer free trials that don't expire. use netlify or vercel for hosting and you're set up. 0$ website.

Yeah, it took me some time to get my head around this, but proper websites have many functions, which also bring complications. So, a simple surge would be a good thing for many small scenarios. Authors could benefit from a personal blog-type surge as a way to showcase themselves.

There are various options available for that as well. Initially, I was hesitant about why someone would choose a surge since a proper website offers many features that I, as a slightly tech-savvy person, would prefer. However, maintaining a website poses numerous problems, especially if I lack proper networking knowledge.

Servers can crash, domains can crash, and many things can go wrong for simple reasons. In contrast, a surge, as a static site without active syncing to a server and domain, can be quite handy. Surging does make website creation and hosting a lot simple.

No need to mess around with complicated servers or databases. Your site loads quickly since it's just static files, and there's less risk of hacking or security issues. Hosting a static site is usually cheaper than hosting a dynamic one, so you can save some cash. Maintenance is a breeze too ...
