Chosen One or The Power Runs in the Family?

I feel like, writing wise, you can get so much drama from a lineage perspective, especially if the power is restricted between siblings. One of my fav tropes for power that I never tried to write.

The deliberate overuse of "Yandere" tag needs to stop.

Just realizing I have Yandre characters but don't use the tag... hmmmmmmmmm ty for bringing this to my attention.

    Disable blocking comments and reviews?

You can always tell who is and who isn't socialized, even on the internet. Watching someone have a meltdown of opinion is always entertaining. But, if their allowed to have a total freakout, drop a 1star, scream and shout at the heavens about how you ruined their life bc the story didn't live...

What kind of story would you build around this?

First thought that sparked in my head was a horror story. Like, there's a supernatural artist who sits in a park and paints people for free, but when they hang the painting in their house, it slowly takes them over and replaces them in the real world as a caricature of who they were. The...

    I have a Question

Characters for me. I can power through a perfectly average and serviceable plot that I've seen re-gift wrapped a dozen times over. But flat characters? That's what kills a story for me...

    Okay, which cover is better?

I'd go with number one, but maybe, if you got rid of the revealing skin and added pants, you might sneak it through. No harm in trying, the worst anyone will say is no.

Should I publish before the whole story is finished?

Sadly, you fell into the same trap that I have, and no doubt, many others have as well. You posted a huge chunk of your story all at once and probably got next to no opportunity for anyone to see it. The best way to do it is, at maximum, a chapter a day, even if you only start out with one...

Is your protagonist your favorite character?

While I do like most of my protags (not all of them are good people), I sometimes end up making a side character that sort of takes the lion's share of my love. Not always, mind you, but it's close enough to 50/50 at this point :blob_joy: Best I can think of is my Succubus protag, and while I...

    What determines trending?

I'm pretty sure, as others have said, it's all about sudden bursts of activity vs the traffic your story has recently had. I released a freaking announcement on one of my older fictions, letting them know that I was doing a small re-write before the next volume and made it into trending spot 3...

Looking for feedback. ChatGPT been hella glazing so need someone to take me down a notch??will give detailed feedback for anyone that gives me any!!

I put this through simply for the feel-good, but CharlesEBrown isn't wrong either. Gotta take it with a grain of salt and focus on where to improve than resting on any laurels that the AI tosses your way. That said, enjoy the glaze  Of course. Having reviewed each chapter...

Looking for feedback. ChatGPT been hella glazing so need someone to take me down a notch??will give detailed feedback for anyone that gives me any!!

Nah man, I posted it for your sake, my guy! Hard to get a sounding board for your writing when first starting out. Personally, I've found putting in an author's note at the start of a story, specifically asking for hard feedback, usually gets it when readers start pouring in, especially if you...

Looking for feedback. ChatGPT been hella glazing so need someone to take me down a notch??will give detailed feedback for anyone that gives me any!!

I've got a Gemini sub from work, and I ran your first chap through it for kicks and giggles. Your using GPT but here's what Gem thinks: Of course. Here is the critical feedback analysis of your first chapter. This feedback is based on established principles of storytelling, focusing on clarity...

Looking for feedback. ChatGPT been hella glazing so need someone to take me down a notch??will give detailed feedback for anyone that gives me any!!

I can second this. Go ahead and ask it for 'critical' and brutally honest feedback. Be prepped for it to be ruthless.

How many of you actually manually use em-dashes?

Yuppers, I catch those pesky accidents all the time. Though I write in Google Docs, so when I edit in SH, (bad habits are hard to avoid) I'll hit my Mario Kart double-dash and not even think twice about it.

How many of you actually manually use em-dashes?

AI has a funky way of inserting them though... I can swear it's reasonably easy to tell when AI puts them in or when a human does it. Like Tyrano said, GPT sort of bungles this and makes it easy to spot, among the other issues, AI writing--for the moment...

How many of you actually manually use em-dashes?

I love to use them and only really figured out they were a big 'no-no' after catching on that AI likes them as well. I still use them, lol, but then again, my work is filled with wacky punctuation because I like to write as if I'm narrating it out loud as I go. It's just how my brain works, I...

What are your some of the most hated tropes?

Worst offender by far for me has to be a harem where the characters you get invested in suddenly disappear for the next shiny girl/guy that's been lined up to be conquered. It just bloats things and makes it impossible to enjoy most harem stories, even if they're otherwise good. Second to that...

Redemption Arc (I guess): Chapter Review 3.0 (?)

For sure, it makes sense, and I get where you're going with it. Bit of a tough one if the goal is awkwardness. But, for the sake of playing devil's advocate, consider how it might read from the outside in, take me for example, who didn't have the same context I do now. I'd say a lot of people...
