This really depends on what you're trying to write here. If it's a story meant to entertain people, then yeah, it should be entertaining, first and foremost. But not all literature is meant to be strictly entertaining, and not all entertainment is going to be fun for everyone who reads it...

Actual advice? Go look at your fav stories and sort of look at what they're doing. Not speaking toward plagiarizing, but how it's written, and how much of the story they reveal in it, tone, etc. Other than that, I myself prefer them short and sweet, but that's not everyone's cup of tea.

The danger with exposition within a conversation is that it's still exposition. Sure, putting it in a convo elevates it and makes it palatable, but it can and will sound like an info dump if it's bulky or without interesting context. I'll also poke fun at only proofreading after 5 chapters...
