What's your reason for not writing LitRPG fiction?

Just not really a fan of them ?‍♂️

    Does RoyalRoad Suck?

Royal Road's crowd is a lot more thorny and persnickety but they're also more vocal and much more likely to support a patreon. Before I was posting on there my patreon was at $350 a month or so. As soon as I started crossposting my work to RR it shot up to $2500.

    THE RIGHT OF REPLY

God why do you YAP SO MUCH just say what you want to say. you don’t write like a Victorian writer you write like a 17 year old who watched master and commander once and started wearing a Tricorne hat to school

    Dwarf and Gnome girls?

This is the first time I’ve ever heard that term and it repels me

    Dwarf and Gnome girls?

That's one reason that most of the sexy depictions of these races make them shortstacks with big round boobs and butts. Clarifying that one would never mistake them for a child.

What's an Author hill you 100% die on? (Please talk about writing related topics)

A lot of people jump into writing with a bunch of big ideas that have been colored by the genres they like, without any concept of the broader first principles of storytelling. You can tell when they ask for advice, and their questions are always about systems and powers and the use of the...

What do you think about average reading comprehension

The average reading score for both fourth and eighth graders in 2024 was two points lower than in 2022 and five points lower than 2019. We're definitely trending downward. You could blame it on all sorts of things and tbh I think most of them are right. Lots of stuff contributing. oh well!

    dukerino's doodle dump

hey all. thought i'd put a thread here where i dump the pics I do as I dust off the ol' tablet after a period of absence. First up is a dump of character illustrations from the cast of PRINCESS OF THE VOID, my sci fi romance. The FMC and most of the cast are a race called the Taiikari--three...

    Romance or Fantasy?

Not only that it's one of the most popular genres around right now. Romantasy books have been printing money ever since Sarah J. Maas hit it big.

My Love For The English Language (Best Language In The World)

I love English because all the different languages that fell face-first into its melting pot give us different layers of meaning and expressivity--from Latin and Ancient Greek we can infuse our sentences with the stultifying air of the philosophical assemblies. From the Romantic languages we're...

What traits should a protagonist have to make readers invest in them?

A goal, and the drive to achieve it. Especially in webfiction I think a proactive character works better than a reactive character.

How many of you take writing seriously? (Poll)

You know, I couldn't tell ya. Whole books have been written trying to quantify or define this sort of question; there's no real way to do it definitively and if you quantify it you have to look at market success which is often the furthest thing from indicators of actual quality. I suppose I'd...

How many of you take writing seriously? (Poll)

I think you're editorializing, then, with the title of this thread. Improvement is good and important but for many writers who consider themselves serious, the primary goal is to share their work with others, or get their ideas down in a digestible and permanent format, or make a living. I...

How many of you take writing seriously? (Poll)

You can theorize and do workshops and watch videos and read On Writing and On Writing Well but ultimately the best way to get better is by putting in the miles, and the best way to put in the miles is to have fun with it. If you're not having a good time you're not gonna stick to it long enough...

How Long Did It Take For Your Work To Reach 1k Views?

Just about a week seems like a fairly reliable metric, just going by the handy dandy charts Scribblehub gives. As you write more stories it happens quicker because you're getting a built-in audience. My latest got there a lot quicker than my first. As far as trending, you'll drive yourself nuts...

'Good Guys Win in the end' Vs Nets and Flakes?

Am I understanding right you're saying that a hallmark of modernism was good guys winning? That's very odd to hear--when I think modernism it's Hemingway, Joyce, Faulkner, etc, and they all wrote primarily huge bummers. But that was before the 50s and 60s. So I'm not sure what the movement...
