Why is the actual F is there so many harem stories?

Likes boost dopamine. Basically an addiction. It's the same case with why use the other popular tropes, not just harem? There are many threads here of authors who aren't writers of specific popular tropes but want to learn it to get readers, like litrpg. Outside of writing, you can also...

Do you pull your stories to publish on Amazon?

KDP doesn't, but KU does. Unless you're going to write a whole new story. If you're going to just edit it, the KU system will catch it. It's like a plagiarism checker. The big authors themselves say KU is half of their total income. So that's KU vs Patreon, selling ebooks everywhere...

Do you pull your stories to publish on Amazon?

Very strictly. There was some issue a few months ago about KU banning authors whose works are pirated. Like those sites that harvest SH and RR? Authors can't control that but the machine that's looking for copies of KU books on the web flag those pirating sites as TOS violations. Not sure what...

Do you pull your stories to publish on Amazon?

You should target your despise at Amazon. Even for the biggest webnovel authors, KU makes half of their earnings, probably more than that. At present, KU has become webnovel land, same as how SH became smut land. So for a webnovel author who want to live off their writing, they have to go KU...

Do you pull your stories to publish on Amazon?

Most readers on SH, RR, etc. aren't going to buy the book anyway. Most of those who'll buy the book, don't visit those sites. It's likely that they're reading off Patreon before that. The published book is going to be more polished than the web version (hopefully) so those with money to spare...

What do you all think of my synopsis?

That depends on what your goal is. If you just want a summary, then that's it. If you want to attract more readers, then make it have more impact. Some hook. As is, it looks like a standard YA story, and it's not standing out.

Finished Book 1 of the Stormlight Archive[The Way of Kings]

Maybe because you're used to web/light novel structures where the plot starts fast. For example, chapter one, already isekaied into new world. At least, that's what happened to me. When I started reading (traditional?) fantasy books again I thought they were slow. And the more I read, the more I...

‘Magic Academy’ or ‘General Life’ Poll

Write what you want, not what readers want. You're not even getting paid here to do what other people want. What are you going to be paid with? Likes? Dopamine of having readers? That's not worth it for your time writing. You'll just end up dropping it or going into hiatus, and then readers will...

    How do you write?

I do go back to check. But do you mean I think of something cool later but can't implement it because of what I've already written? In that case, I just note that down and hope to put that in a rewrite into an actual book someday. I consider my webnovels as drafts anyway so it's less pressure.

    How do you write?

I write and post. I can't really stock chapters. Hardest thing to do was piling enough chapters before starting Patreon. But as of now, I write and post. No backlogs. I change my mind a lot, so having a backlog feels like a restriction and a waste of time for me.

    Feedback for an idea

What's unconventional about it? Unconventional in the sense that it's not conventional for SH? Because like in general, I don't see anything unconventional with it.

    Early exposition, yes or nay?

Yeah, I meant that exactly. Many web/light novels, even famous ones start that way. Even webtoons/manga, explaining what happened, and why this or that god is giving out powers to the OP MC, disguising it as a sort of prologue. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word "hint" because it gives the...

    Early exposition, yes or nay?

There are already many comments saying that early exposition is bad, so I'm just going to add why it's done, even on famous web novels. Also, manga, manhwa, webtoons, etc. that use popular tropes (OP MC, progression, cultivation, isekai, etc.) Readers of those "webnovely" tropes (not sure what...

I need advice on a book I'm writing.

I can think of three ways to go about this. The first and more popular is to make the villain still a "good guy". For example, he may be the demon lord, but the humans he kills are assholes anyway. The monsters are actually the oppressed ones. He may save a slave or two (or many) along the way...

    Agonizing over 2 story concepts

Haven't read that story, but I do know the appeal of rising numbers. The thing is, only very, very few stories continue their growth at the same pace as, let's say, their first trending. In LitRPGS, numbers just shoot up. In writing webnovels, authors will be lucky to have a modest growth over...

    Agonizing over 2 story concepts

You should go with what you think you can write for a long time. You're gunning for numbers, and numbers are a very good motivator. But they can't keep pumping you with dopamine forever. I have several writer friends who turn meta to have a taste of numbers but then quit several months down the...

Why am I trending so low?

Just a suspicion on Trending. It's good to a have a jump in stats. So a steady climb in stats (even if high) isn't good, compared to spikes. Or I may be wrong. Just random guessing. :blobtaco:

AI, what is it good for?

In terms of writing novels, there's a funny thing that's starting to happen that probably wasn't considered before. AI cannibalism. There are so many AI-generated novels everywhere that AIs harvest those to train themselves, resulting in even worse stories. With time, more AI stories will flood...

    Opinions about the JRPG progression

It's an Eastern thing that people can rise to become gods, compared to the West, where there are separate gods and humans. Mostly rooted in cultivation stories from ancient Chinese times where people can ascend. It was copied over to Japanese. It's really not cliched. More like it's a staple in...
