Male protagonists or female protagonists: which one do you prefer?

Definitely both. Depending on the story though, one or the other, could definitely work better. Most of my stories will often feature a lead character for each gender. One male. One female.

Thank you, Mysterious reader, for giving my story plenty of comments!

?????????????????? Saw some folks asking for cookies, so here's a bunch more. Help yourselves. Okay... that one definitely deserves some bonus cookies. I'm definitely going to have to steal that and use it next time I get one of those messages.

Dedications. Do you use them? If so how?

The topic is fairly self-explanatory in the title, but it's a simple question. Do you use dedications in your stories/books? And if so, how do you go about doing it? In a separate chapter? Author's Notes in the Synopsis? Authors notes in the first chapter? I'm genuinely curious how some of you...

What clichés of talk do you avoid in your fiction?

Ultimately, I try to make the dialogue feel real for the reader, beyond simply conveying part of the narrative. It's less about cliche for me as long as it delivers the appropriate feeling. So I'll use, or not use, whatever works to deliver that feeling, and depending on the mood, I'll try to...

    New Cover!

Given the background color palette, I'd suggest a softer color for the outline. A pale orange (Hex: #fcac6c for this one here) would probably be ideal given the blues of the background there, but sure; go with what you like. It's your cover.

    New Cover!

Well, I'm far from an artist, or graphic designer, so I can't rightly critique the artwork itself beyond simply saying that I believe it is quite exceptional, and nothing following is in any way a reflection on the quality of the artwork presented. What doesn't sit right with me (from a...

How do you control an overpowered character so they don't break the story?

As an expansion on what I said here, I'll use Aethara: The King's Path as a point of reference. Marius, the protagonist, is explicitly defined as being "As powerful as he needs to be" for the story; because the tension, and conflict, for his character arc is primarily moral, ethical, and...

Envy Guide: Leveling Up Your Slop Tier Writing

I said that I would write out a little scene for this when I finished with what I was working on, so here is is that scene. -- Envy sat cross-legged by the fireplace, the dancing flames within casting the small cabin room in their soft amber glow. In her lap rested a small plate adorned with...

For those interested in reading the rough-draft in 'Early Access', it is freely available on my discord server, Adventures in Elaria (link), for all members. Otherwise, it should be posted in its polished state by the end of next week to my scribble-hub book here (Aethara: The King's Path)

Just finished writing the rough draft of Chapter 1, and pre-edit and revision, it's sitting neatly around ~3700 words. By the time the edits and revisions are finished though, you can roughly expect something closer to the expected range (~5500 - ~6500) words in length, because I will be adding...

    Writing In-Depth World-Building

Out of curiosity, how do some of you (my fellow authors) prefer to go about introducing your world-building and world lore into the stories? I personally tend to utilize a number of different techniques and approaches to slowly hint at a greater depth to the world than what is there on the...

    What's your favorite romance anime/manga/novel?

Strictly Romance... I'm going to have to go with Spice & Wolf. Even though the romance is a slow-burn secondary plot, it is prevalent throughout the series, and even more in-depth in the light novels. YES! Another very great pick. There was even a (half-decent) TV series for it (Legend of the...

Does writing your story make you feel better or worse?

Honestly, I enjoy writing, and I write because I enjoy it. For me, it's not work, so much as trying to tell the stories bouncing around in my head, and trying to make sense of the dreams that have haunted my nights since my early youth. If my stories draw attention, or garner a following, all...

One Universe with Multi-Series, Which Meets in the Main Conflict of the Main Series?

All of my works exist in the same universe, and are part of the same world, but ultimately have minimal direct interaction beyond the occasional easter-egg. Linking them all together could certainly lead to an 'Avengers: Infinity War' type scenario, which could be cool, but would also be too...

Envy Guide: Leveling Up Your Slop Tier Writing

After looking through this, I'm not really sure what the goal is. Are we trying to write the worst rendition of the scene? Or trying to elevate it? If it's the former, then maybe try this one: Envy took a bite of the bread. Her lips curling into a smile as she savored the taste. It was really...

    Favorite fictional villains?

That's fair. If ya want specifics though, yeah it's definitely his portrayal in the movie Constantine that wins it for me. The softer edge to his tone is dripping with thinly veiled malice and a controlled hostility rather than the more visceral (or comical) portrayals.
