I don't know if I got much of what you said, but here is a idea I have. Coin flips or random card selection. I remember reading LOM (Lord of Mysteries.) Where the MC uses coins and card to predict future or certain psychological traits and actions. This can be a high risk high reward condition.

I have read few light novels and I only like sensei or other older respectful designations. I absolutely hated chan and San as they just made the sentences awkward to read. Chan and san only feel right if done with some comedic undertone.

Hmmm, he used free version but it can be quite handful to use it. I would say try it, all you need is a mail account. Paid version is good but I suggest learn to use free one, I tried free version not the most fantastic one, but okay I guess. Don't expect Adobe illustrator level stuff.
