Writing How do you write names?

I once forgot the name of a planet. And I remember thinking it was a good name too :blob_teary:. I need to write more notes. Most of my names are related to the character's personality, backstory or what will happen to them in the future, except a couple of my earlier ones and some unimportant...

    What’s your origin story?

NU. Saw Tony make a post about his new site, thought it sounded pretty neat and that I should put my novels on it. Only found out like a month later when Tony made another post 'launching' the site that I was actually a beta tester :blobrofl: Which is how I managed to get a member number so low...

    Foreshadowing / Omens

It depends. The way I like to do it - or at least the way I like to think I do it - is that the further away the event, person or whatever is being foreshadowed, the more vague I be, and the closer, the more obvious. And that seems to work so far for my novels, but if you were doing, say, a...

What do you do to promote your story?

I do 'bout the same as you. But yeah, it's been mentioned before and I've said it before, but posting at high traffic times is a double-edged sword. There are more people there to see the chapter, sure, but there are also a bunch of other authors who had the same idea as you, so your chapter...

    How long should chapters be?

I would say that it's up to you. Write some chapters, and get a feel for how much you can write about in so many words, and how much you want to write about each chapter. And whatever word count you settle on, be a little flexible with it. Don't cut a chapter that's got a bit more you could...

What lead you to this point?

Actually kinda fuzzy about it. I think read manga in school library watched anime of the manga a friend told me about a novel (a light novel) googling it found NU (maybe? Don't really remember how i found nu) long period of lurking and reading (I got welcoming messages from other users 2 years...

    World Hopping Genre

I'm planning to write one too, as a less plot-character-lore intensive rest after I finish my current novels and before what I think will be a very labor intensive novel that i'll be writing after that. Haven't actually read any of the genre, unless you count a couple of dropped RRL novels, so...

    We Need a Bank

Another pressing matter: What would the scribblehub currency be called? scribblebux? scribbles?

    We Need a Bank

well, if it's scribblehub, maybe we can earn money by posting chapters as well as forum posts? Of course, you'd have to have restrictions in place like once a day, but still.

    Dark Core Personality Test

If I remember correctly, my first attempt was 28% lighter than average. And I suppose you do have a point there. I think it said I was narcissistic or something, and I was like, that can't be right, and did it again.

    Dark Core Personality Test

40.89% lighter than the average person. I would say that there's something wrong with y'all, but I already knew that most of us here aren't normal. ...Granted, this was my 2nd attempt, but usually I have an aversion to giving answers to either extreme, so I went back and did it ignoring that...

    Writing Knight versus Bear

Why do so many people want to know this? There was a thread on NU, now here, and apparently there was one on quora, too? But anyway, to all the people who are saying ditch the armour for more speed (here and the other thread)... Bears can probably run/move faster than you, and you have to watch...

    Holiday Extras for Your Readers

I mean, saying that, I do do an extra chapter for april fools. But it's mostly unrelated to the theme of the day, I just use it as an excuse to write a side story. For that, last time, I wrote it as entirely separate from the main story - it was set in the same world with the same mechanics and...

    Holiday Extras for Your Readers

I don't write them. Personally, I almost never like seasonal episodes or chapters, even if they're non-canon. Especially if they happen in the middle of an important event or something, they just break all the tension and ruin the suspense.

Writing Help a Scatterbrained Author Out

Hmm... Right now, for both my novels, nearly everything is just in my head. I have very little written down, and that's mostly just a few notes on future characters and a few names of races etc that haven't been introduced yet. This is not a good way to do it. This is a very bad way to do it...

What would the government do if there was suddenly superpowers.

And the relevance of that to this discussion is what, exactly? Sounds like a blitzkrieg to me, not attrition. You're the one referencing that, not me. It's also irrelevant. That would be because a large proportion of the higher ups, if not also the rank soldiers, had a fanatical belief in...

What would the government do if there was suddenly superpowers.

Depends on the battlefield, and assassination isn't overrated. How is the enemy supposed to react if you've taken out their entire leadership? Chances are, there won't be anyone willing to step in and take up the mantle. Often enough, you know where the enemy leader is, you just can't get there...

What would the government do if there was suddenly superpowers.

I mean, you keep saying that, but it depends entirely on the strength of the superpower and exactly what it was. Any trained soldier with a gun is going to be more effective than a guy who can just throw fireballs around, but a guy who can teleport anywhere in the world would be much more...

What would the government do if there was suddenly superpowers.

I think it would depend heavily on how many people got superpowers, and the scale of those superpowers. If everyone got them, but they were just convenience level superpowers, there would probably be a tonne of research done into them, but things would just go back to practically how they were...

My MC has the same name as another series (same genre) MC by chance

Tbh, most people want to use 'special' and 'unique' names for their characters, especially their main ones, at least these days. I find that even semi-common names aren't used very often, at least in the genres of books I read. Not many Bobs and Bills, James and Joes. Alternatively, you can turn...
