The action filled staple of the shounen genre doesn't translate too well to manga but I can't help myself from really liking Mahoutsukai Reimeiki (The dawn of the witch). It doesn't officially have the shounen tags but it really feels like one.

This may just be me, but I find it rather hard to read with every sentence being on their own line... Maybe couple some together into a paragraph?

If you'd like something closer to a traditional book, the first book of Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry is quite well written (if I remember correctly). If you'd like more of the modern style thriller/survival type, One Day, Suddenly, Seoul Is by Park Chang-Geun is a pretty killer manga (literally).
