A book that changed your life/perspective/etc?

Well, this may have not changed my whole life, but it certainly changed my attitude towards news, media, advertising and politics. Propaganda self defense should absolutely be taught in high school, although I'm sure certain influential groups would vigorously oppose it. I should say two...

Which animal are you afraid of?,you can name from all animal groups.

They did a study of Appalachian Trail hikers that were hurt by wildlife. What was the most common? Black bears? Bobcats? Coyotes? Nope. None of those. Ticks. They can bite you and infect you with all sorts of nasty stuff without you ever knowing. You militant vegans probably like lone star...

    Swords and stuff.

Having spent a lot of time with a rapier in my hand, and having dabbled in German longsword, I have to confess I like swords. Any well-crafted fight scene will get my attention and respect, regardless of the weapons used. For me, as long as the weapon fits the character and the world, I don't...

    Non-English words/phrases in fantasy.

I think it works better in a completed novel than a serialized format like this. If it's a few weeks between chapters, the reader may say, "what does that mean again?" That could hurt worldbuilding more than help it.

Writing Different voices for different characters

I'm not thinking of trying to phonetically write the pronunciation differences, if that's what you're thinking. That would be hard to do and hard to read, I think. I'd do it more at the word choice and phrasing level. Ya'll or yous, pop or soda, how y'all are or how you doin', median or...

Writing Different voices for different characters

So, would that be the second or third option in the poll?

Writing Different voices for different characters

It occurs to me that people speak differently. I'm not just talking about acccent and dialect, like a Texan MC and his Upstate NY lover, although that might be a place for me to start. I definitely want to use that beyond throwing in a few "y'alls" and 'yous guys." Okay, the latter is...

If you were reborn as your novel's mc what would you do?

Go out in the woods, take my clothes off, put my fur on, and go for a walk. Maybe find a tasty rabbit or two. >^..^<

    Heavenly Bodies - a (?) Story!

If you looked up last night, you might have noticed Venus, Mars and the moon had a pas de trois - a triple conjunction. Your mission, should you choose to accept it is simple: describe what happened between these mythological entities. Was it a love triangle? If so, polyamory, cheating, or...

    Pizza with pineapple

Let me have pineapple (w/ bacon and jalapeño, please) on my pizza, and I won't complain about your stinking salted fish.

If you're dealing with anxiety, phobia, or anything similar, don't be afraid or embarrassed to get help. If you sprain your knee, you go to an orthopedist. If you have heart issues, you go to a cardiologist. There should be no shame in seeing someone if your brain is causing problems. One...

What exactly is the Fantasy genre?

Unless the setting is Pern, where the dragons were genetically engineered from fire lizards. To invoke Sturgeon's Law, "Nothing is always absolutely so." To invoke Sturgeon's Revelation, "Ninety percent of everything is crap." Some of the other 10% isn't Tolkienesque. Across the Nightingale...

What wonderful mistakes have you made lately?

I ask because I've come to the conclusion I haven't been making enough mistakes, or more accurately, the right kind of mistakes. My recent mistakes have been the kind where you muddle about doing more or less the same stuff you have been doing, rather than stretching yourself and growing. I'm...

    Paranormal romance idea

Should I have spelled out paranormal instead of abbreviating it to "para?" I apologize for being confusing if that's the case.

    Paranormal romance idea

This is an opening scene that came to mind, but I suppose it would be a romance, and I have no qualifications to write such a thing. So, I figured I'd toss it out there and see if anyone will pick it up. I hit the wrong button and sent this. It's a work in progress, so come back for more...

words to tuse instead of said

Replied, asked, whispered, yelled, etc. Also, when only two people are talking, you don't need to say "so-and-so said" every time.
