Well, it finally got to me...

Years ago I never really imagined what I'd be getting into now - that I would be writing a fantasy novel about mermaids and mermen. As time progressed though, I started to get really into the process of writing it. Then I started getting into the researching for the book - looking at ocean...

    How would you write God?

Very, very, carefully. I actually attempted to do this is a little bit of a writing experiment, and it was very difficult. I wrote Him vaguely. Not describing much of His appearance, other than appearing to be like a physical man, more describing a warm, comforting feeling around Him.

    Overused weapons types

Archery is objectively the best medieval weapon. Recurve, longbow, etc, it's just too good for pompous knights to want to admit it.

Is all this just a waste of time?

I just wanted to say - I appreciated your comment... I just found myself wholly unequipped to respond. I feel like I lived what some would perhaps refer to as a "perfect" upbringing, and thus have felt very self conscious trying to talk to people who have not had that. I especially thought your...

Are you in top 25% of inteligent people. Why do you think so.(experiences,otherCallingYouInteligent/dumb,habbits,intrests,success/failure in something)

Well, I took a pseudo IQ test once and got 129. I'm not sure how accurate it was though. I consider myself to be an intelligent person, but it comes with certain drawbacks, like greatly reduced understanding of social skills, certain learning disabilities - we know I'm slightly on the autism...

Is all this just a waste of time?

I appreciate advice people have given me in this thread. I am feeling much better than I was when I wrote this, though I am still not planning on putting much more of my story on here. I will at some point take it off the site. At that point, anyone who is really serious about reading and...

Is all this just a waste of time?

Y'all aren't understanding certain things I'm saying. I am working and am a student as I'm doing this, not planning on making it my full time career, but I'd love to publish a book on the side. The reason why patreon on sites like this wouldn't work for me is because I'm just not writing the...

Is all this just a waste of time?

I have this and a Sci fi novel that's also incomplete. It's taken me years to get this far on this story. Most stories I reach a roadblock where I can't move forward. Usually in scifi it's that I don't have the expertise to speak on something important, and in fantasy it's most often that all...

Is all this just a waste of time?

The problem is I'm using writing and working towards this sort of as a coping mechanism. I'm having a really hard time with my college classes, and just working towards things in life like dating, and this has been the one bright spot. Now it feels like this has been snuffed out.

Is all this just a waste of time?

What publishing house is possibly going to accept an unfinished manuscript from an unknown author? And with these writing sites... I don't know. There's just been a feeling of having them on here, knowing that strangers can read it... it gave me a feeling of legitmacy. Going back to being...

Is all this just a waste of time?

That is the thing I don't think y'all understand - I don't have a manuscript. The only thing keeping me going on this one is feeling like people on these sites are reading my work so far, and vetting what I'm writing. I've also been told that you should have a handful of manuscripts ready to...

Is all this just a waste of time?

I don't know. I don't think anyone has anything way to offer me help. If I had a way to get a real opinion from someone in publishing on what to do, that would help me. But I have no idea how to do that. If I was ballsy I'd email Brandon Sanderson, as he has his contact info out there for...

Is all this just a waste of time?

I was planning on getting some career with my generic digital media career. I would never become a teacher. I don't have authority to speak on anything, and I've been around the kids that my dad, a junior high woodshop teacher, had to deal with. School is becoming hell for teachers in the United...

Is all this just a waste of time?

I never thought it would be easy, or that I wanted it to support all of my income - I just wanted the effort of writing to be able to offset the time I spent working on it. And those authors that you mentioned that were serialized were serialized in magazines and newspapers. I don't think that...

Is all this just a waste of time?

But my story is not a light novel. Things work differently here. Not every story is Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. You don't get an amazing movie or TV show. If I don't traditionally publish, no one interested in my genre will actually find my book. A patreon isn't going to feed my family...
