Writing When is it too much or too little words?

Some of the stories on sites like RR also make you pay per chapter. Shorter chapters = More Money per story. On almost every pay-per-chapter story I've read, it's painfully obvious that most of those chapters were originally Longer and clearly Cut then posted piece by piece. As far as I see...

Writing When is it too much or too little words?

For published novels, 2500 to 3000 is the preferred length, according to my editor. For POSTED Online Chapters, I personally prefer longer chapters; 3000 to 5000 words, simply because there is a time lag between chapters. In the period of time between chapters; a week, a month, years, most...

Writing Cause then effect or effect then cause?

Your Journalistic/Essay/Report writing is showing: The mans eyes snapped open (effect) as the brick was thrown through his window (cause). When writing an Essay, or reading a Report in the News, What Happened is the first thing that gets mentioned because What Happened is the most Important...

Here: [Tutorial] Tricks to Tight 'Sneaky' DESCRIPTION Specifically: Scenery Every new scene should open with a snapshot of description that details the stage the action is about to happen in. No more than 60 words max. If you need more than that to describe your setting, splice it into your...

Exactly! -- When you have a character that can end the world, how do you end their story? It's not like they can settle down and farm! -- Getting married is also out of the question. Seriously, would you try to sleep with someone that can shatter your bones if they hug you too tightly? Not me!

I find battle-manga type stories Boring. It's too easy to guess the plot. Once I can guess the plot, the story is over for me. I prefer twists and surprises in my stories. I am not so easily entertained as a high-schooler. (I left high-school a loooong time ago.)

As for I Was a Sword When I Reincarnated (WN) (translation), I'm going to have to agree with you. It looks like the author wanted to go somewhere with the story, but their Publisher or Agent talked them out of it -- and into writing a battle manga type story.

Writing [Tutorial] The Secret to Proper Paragraphing and Dialogue

Believe me IT SHOWS. It is a published series -- a children's book series meant for middle-school boys translated from Japanese, a language that doesn't have adjectives at the middle-school level of that language. (You know, the words needed for description?) There's also a manga series, and...

Writing [Tutorial] Writing ACTION 2: The Plug & Play Method

This line is Backwards. It's also written in Passive Voice. It should have been written this way: Example 1: As evidenced by the gear shaft protruding from the wall into the sewing machines, they were completely mechanical. An even easier way to write this would be: Example 2: One could tell...

Writing [Tutorial] The Secret to Proper Paragraphing and Dialogue

It is a lot, and I struggled for years to learn it all too. Chronological sentence structure and knowing how and when to paragraph properly crosses all formats from paperbacks to online story sites. Remember, these rules were invented to make stories Clear and Understandable to The Reader. That...

To Lewd Or Not To Lewd

Okay, first we need to do some defining. According to the publishing industry in the US and Canada: Pornography consists of images, video content, and illustrations of people having sex. -- In short, if it's not a Picture, it's Not Porn. -- The main audience of Pornography tends to be Men...

What are people's thoughts on hard vocabulary?

Never assume the Audience is an Idiot. -- That's a great way to insult your readers. Also, there is Always that one guy who knows your subject: island living, and sailing, so much better than you do -- even if you happen to be an expert. I can't tell you how many times I've bumped into one or...

Writing [Tutorial] When the Hero is NOT a Hero - Protagonist & Antagonist: A Different Opinion

This should be posted in it's own thread so lots of people can see it, seriously. -- It shouldn't be hiding in mine. Make sure you give it a good title too.

Writing [Tutorial] When the Hero is NOT a Hero - Protagonist & Antagonist: A Different Opinion

I think linguistics is a very cool major. It would come in handy when you have to make your own languages for a novel. I had to do just that for a sci-fi series I wrote. The story had too many positions and concepts that weren't covered in English. LOL! The real world does indeed tend to shave...

Writing [Tutorial] When the Hero is NOT a Hero - Protagonist & Antagonist: A Different Opinion

Thanks! People can be quite oblivious to the obvious. Exactly! One grows from their experiences and the other fails to adapt to changing circumstances. Winner is the Hero. <-- Winners write the histories. OMG! You get it! LOL! -- I think I like you. Have some coffee. ☕

Writing [Tutorial] When the Hero is NOT a Hero - Protagonist & Antagonist: A Different Opinion

You're a literary major? -- I'm so sorry, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. hopefully you'll get over that sometime soon. He is a main character -- the third in the triangle: The Ally, though labelled by Aristotle as The Victim. He is also the Main Viewpoint Character -- the one who tells...

Writing [Tutorial] When the Hero is NOT a Hero - Protagonist & Antagonist: A Different Opinion

You're welcome. -- I wrote the original essay out of sheer spite, fresh from an argument with a Literary Major. I'm sure you can spot the traces left over from my ire.
