What is the Hardest Genre to Write?

My strengths: slow-burn, introspective, speculative fiction. Ideally full of gender feels or existential dread and questions about the human condition. My weakest: non-fiction, action-heavy, or smut. Non-fiction is difficult to me because I prefer to tell story via parables or metaphors...

Is it okay to tell readers when so and so is about to start after such and such chapter

I wonder how the director of the movie Memento would react to this thread.

At what point do your characters begin to take over the story?

I am somewhat of a plural system, myself. So I create new facets for my characters, feed them data about what they know (which is distinct from what I know), and let them tell me what they do and how they respond. And then I essentially act like a GameMaster for them, and adjust things to try...

At what point do your characters begin to take over the story?

My characters' fate is predetermined (I know how the story ends). But how they handle each scene is up to them.

What did you learn during your writing researches ?

I know more about neighbourhoods in a lot of PNW cities than I did before wring SotA, I have learned about MHD drives, I learned how many calories are found in a pound of fat, I learned what to do when someone suddenly needs their blood sugar levels raised, I learned a lot about Mongolian names...

Is it okay to tell readers when so and so is about to start after such and such chapter

Since I juggle 4 main PoV characters, I will sometimes mention in the comments when (or how much) we'll of a specific character, especially if people like them, or are curious why we haven't had their PoV in a while. In the book format, those notes will not exist, But on the web, since it can...

Death Isekai - Ideas on how to kill the MC?

I love that vibe. MC drank the nice potion with a post-it claiming "Drink me!" as they entered the Dragon's Lair.

What features would you add if you made a personal writing site

Probably ways to read the story, contact me, buy the books, audiobooks and ebooks, once they're all out. I wouldn't personally really expect to get much traffic on my personal site, compared to say, the amount of traffice I get here or on RR.

In action combat, characters who wears skirts should at least have some shorts

Maka in the Soul Eater anime fights in a very short skirt, and I believe they never ever flash her panties in any episode. It can be done tastefully. And really, it should be.

    BALD PEOPLE ARE LAME

Aww, such an ending. With how great everything was up to this point, I expected something else!

We need a new content warning (ASAP)

I mean, even if either of us were AI, would it matter? I fully believe an interesting conversation can happen between a biological being and a sentient, artifically made one. I personally don't suscribe to the idea where "man-made" is inferior to "naturally occuring". It's actually a main theme...

We need a new content warning (ASAP)

Just so we're clear, I'm absolutely not in favour of adding the tag to ScribbleHub, so the "You" in this sentence is probably whoever the OP who started this thread is. Personally, I'd mark my story as AI-Assisted, but I'm not doing it as a way to claim "AI is here", I'm doing it out of...

Death Isekai - Ideas on how to kill the MC?

Two ideas for future stories of mine, but feel free to steal them 1. Death by accident. Imagine the person in Pulp fiction who gets their head blown off in the car? Totally unintentional. Gets isekai'd because of bad luck or karma or whatever. 2. Death by distraction. Someone does something...

We need a new content warning (ASAP)

I prefer to think of them as both of them are AI, myself. But I suppose my definition of Artificial Intelligence is pretty loose. Any decision-making by software counts as AI to me. By definition, LLM and deterministic decision making both fall under the broad category of symbolic AI. You...

We need a new content warning (ASAP)

Back when it was using rule-based corrections. This same difference can be seen between how games often use Machine Learning AI now, but used to be programmed with deterministic algorhythms to evaluate all their possible moves. "For every square my queen can move to, increase the score by 1...

We need a new content warning (ASAP)

The tech behind GPT is decades old. I used predictive LLM in 1984. Grammar and Spell checkers didn't use to rely on LLM before, but now they do. Using Grammarly or GPT to fix your text is essentially the same thing, except one is vilified and other isn't. But mechanically, they're the same thing.

How many chapters at launch are enough?

I did 11 chapters on day one, because that is how many chapters were needed before I introduced all of my characters in the story.
