Writer's Block: Does writing a novel on the side allow you to refresh your mind?

Writer's block IMO is more like lack of motivation of falling out of love with your creation for a bit. It's always good to do something else until you find the motivation to get back to it. That said, it is always good to finish more than expected when you are in the mood to write. That helps...

What are some major milestones to track for your stories?

Wow ... 300 readers in 2 weeks is amazing. How'd you manage that?

What are some major milestones to track for your stories?

What sites do you crosspost to? How do they compare to SH? I like SH a lot from a publishing pt of view - but find that it is an ocean. Getting readers is the hard part.

What are some major milestones to track for your stories?

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. What are some milestones (by those who do track them) that you have found to be impactful I'll rephrase my OP. The intent is not to say that everyone should care. I am interested to understand what are good metrics/milestones from those who do care. For...

What are some major milestones to track for your stories?

It matters to know what your readership likes/dislikes even if you do not plan to be commercial. Readership trends show what story points resonate with your audience IMO. It's more than just about the numbers. Plus, the higher your numbers - the more readers you get. This results in better...

What are some major milestones to track for your stories?

Question for all authors here. I know everyone obsesses over the stats of their stories. For those that have done this a while here on this platform - what are some major milestones/metrics that you track to see how you are doing?

What’s a story concept that sounds broken on paper but works amazingly in execution?

My book is the second one. It came out quite well. The third - there is a fantastic movie on that premise - everyone on (an) Earth cannot lie. Only one man can and he takes complete advantage of it. Very quirky movie - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1058017/ (Then Invention of Lying)

How long do you take to write your novel?

Depends on the novel. My first novel arc I didn't start with a proper outline or a plan. I just wrote because I was in my happy place when I wrote. It ended up being ~650k words. Took me 6 months to draft the whole story. I worked on it part time of course. Some parts wrote themselves faster...

Are Strong MCs Really Boring… or Are We Just Reading Them Wrong?

OP MCs are boring. That's why Batman is way more interesting than Superman can ever be. It's always more interesting when someone can accomplish something with less. That said... if the OP MC can be exploited through weaknesses - such as emotionally or psychologically. That would be great. Tbh -...

Recommendations Recommend me some SH books to read! (Round 2)

I'll nominate myself here... I'm about ~30 chapters in. I believe it meets most of your criteria. It's a slice of life book that is a contemporary urban novel. It has a comedic undertone throughout. It is haremlit but there is a whole ensemble cast other than the MC and the girls as well. It has...

How do you grow an audience?

I posted my first story here last year. I gave up after about 5 chapters because of what you faced. I went away and tried on other sites and got some success. I'm not saying I am successful or anything. Just a few reflections. Here are some things I learned in the past year. 1. Perhaps this...

To Those Who Write Fight Scenes...

Yea. I want to know this as well. It would be great if anyone responding could point to an actual fight scene and give your thought process planning this.

I have a question regarding AI.

IMO. It makes more sense than trying to write in a 5th language that you are not confident about. There may be a few mistranslated sentences, but at least the author will accomplish their goal. Readers can always help you with poorly phrased sentences or idioms.

I have a question regarding AI.

Unless you are trying to use this as a way to learn English, why not write in the language of your choice and just use AI to translate? You will probably find this faster and more efficient. Perhaps writing isn't the best way to learn a language unless you already have some mastery over it.

Why is no one reading my novel??

Do comments and favorites help with the visibility of the story in any way? I've done ok with ~ 21 average reads in the first week. Just trying to understand how certain books do well. Is it working with the tags and genre?

What will you do if an alien invasion really happens?

Run and hide in a basement and hope they don't know how to open doors like in the movie War of the Worlds.
