    Author's Greatest Enemy

By far, it is lack of motivation caused by extreme depression. Especially sucks since I really want to write, I just can't.

What does everyone's notes look like?

Notes? Uhh... I have a list of my characters and a list of places. Does that count? I don't really keep notes for plot or anything, as it changes too much to bother with writing it down.

Which Trope Are You Most Tired of Seeing?

There are two I hate about equally, for similar reasons. "Bad guys" who are utterly brainless but supposedly big bad scary people. If you can be outsmarted by a child and your entire empire taken down by one person with ease, you probably wouldn't have ever gotten to that position. Likewise...

How do I write a character who’s really smart

I must agree with TheEldritchGod -- the easiest way to write a character more intelligent than yourself is to work backwards. Write the end result, then consider how things lead to that, write that, then start looking for a thought process that leads to that point and write it in. And as was...

Before and After: How different are your characters during planning and writing?

I've actually been kinda annoyed with the characters in my story. The kitsune was originally supposed to be female, but disagreed with me. Then they were supposed to avoid humans and hide from them for quite while, but they disagreed with me. Then the second most important character was...

Long living Elves don’t make sense to me

Seconding the point about bows. They really do require a hell of a lot of strength to use, to the point where archers can be identified by the way their skeletons are deformed from the continual strain they put themselves through. Anyways, on to the point of the thread... It is actually...

    Weapon question

Why use something you have to hide? If you have to be hiding stuff, that means you are at risk of being discovered. Sling, it can be worn as a belt, and a good slinger can penetrate many types of armor and shatter bones fairly easily. Staff, no one will think too much about someone with a...

    Buffer vs Uploads Question

Personally, I'd think five chapters is a good starting point for a story, but you should keep posting it on a set schedule. I've been failing at that part myself, unfortunately. Having a backlog can help a great deal with that. I'd recommend posting 1/2 to 2/3rds of what you write and keeping...

I am going to start of as a newbie writer and I don't know my stuff around writing other than in papers or notes so I need help !!

Personally, I started writing after many years of excessive reading, so I fall back on my memory of things I've read for examples of what to do or not to do. A few things I can recommend -- try to avoid repeatedly using the same word or phrase. As an example, if people are speaking, use a...

    Why do you keep writting?

I have many reasons for writing, but the primary one is that I've got an extremely creative mind and create many worlds in my mind. I'd like to have them outside my mind and let others enjoy them too. Ideally, I'd like to make money from writing, but without being able to keep to a schedule...

    Chapter bank woes

Back when I had chapters saved up, I absolutely did have the urge to post everything. But having a buffer can help a lot when you have trouble writing. That said, it sucks when you lose your buffer and still can't manage anything else for the moment.

How many words do you write per day?

Typically, zero words. Sometimes I get a thousand or so, sometimes I get two thousand, sometimes I have a really good day and get five thousand. But mostly, it is zero. Depends a lot on how I feel on a given day, and with my current situation, that is often horrible.

    Why did you start writing?

Spent basically my whole life reading absolutely absurd amounts, and creating worlds in my head. Eventually I was inspired to start writing by the work of one of my favorite authors, specifically A Tail's Misfortune by SME. I really liked how the characters and setting interacted, and finally...

    What is your best Novel?

Since I've only got one story so far, that is both my best and worst story at the same time. On the plus side, some folks seem to like it, so it can't be too bad.

    Writing as a Job

I'd love to make writing my source of income, but atm I have trouble just writing consistently, let alone having high quality and popularity. But maybe in the future, I can manage it.

The worst story you ever made

Since I've only published one story... I suppose my best story is also my worst story and my first story. At least people seem to like it so far.

    Academic Subjects

Some things almost no one seems to think of: practical uses of magic. Using fire magic to run a steam engine, or maintaining a steady temperature to cook at. Air magic to suck the air out of a container for vacuum sealing. Healing magic to kill germs (just a little reverse-healing) helps keep...

    What about you?

Wasn't around when this was first posted, but might as well respond now that it is back at the top. I don't plan, really. It seems like it at times, but that is because it takes a while to write what has happened. I just create a world in my head, then create some characters and throw them...

Tips For New Writers Keeping A Schedule.

As others have said, backlog. Write as much as you can when you can, then release at a set pace, regardless of how much you want to release it all. Just gotta be careful to write faster than you release or you will run out of backlog. I've had pretty good luck with it, as some days I'll...

    new writer here...

I have a lot of issues with my own writing as well. I've found it helps a lot posting it online though, as other people who enjoy it can support you. Just gotta keep pushing forward and you improve along the way. And the folks reading can help you keep going. I am also a new author myself...
