Would you cross-dress in a world of only one gender? (Poll)

Who knows? It seems like a perfectly impossible situation to me, and yet the post clearly states this: But, honestly, even if you placed me in a world of actually normal men, I don't think I'd hold up well. With nobody else able to understand my gender, wouldn't it be impossible to respect it...

Would you cross-dress in a world of only one gender? (Poll)

(Queer men are men? Of course they count as men.) No. The "stereotypical" masculinity is non-queer and almost entirely defines itself by being "not feminine" (and not queer, because queer is believed to be feminine). So I'm not even sure how it would operate in a world where the feminine...

Would you cross-dress in a world of only one gender? (Poll)

So I'm basically stuck in toxic masculinity land where everyone is a short-haired macho-macho man and I'm being pressured to become the same? Aside from living to find a way home, is there even a point to continuing on in this hellhole? I would take a temporary potion to attend job interviews...

    Genre Explanations (Unofficial)

They're really cliquey and superficial. Have you ever seen Mean Girls or Twilight? That's kind of the standard. There are really strict subgroups like the "bitchy cheerleaders" and the allegedly "hot jocks", there's the whole prom and Prom King/Prom Queen thing, if they don't have uniforms then...

A lot of Asian novels take place in a school setting, just like anime does. The feel of those stories is pretty different to stories taking place in other settings, since there's a lot of focuses on classes, friend groups, teachers interfering, the need to study, etc. It makes sense to split...

    Genre Explanations (Unofficial)

Martial Arts is a genre that exists on both Novel Updates and Scribble Hub, but the genres Wuxia, Xianxia, and Xuanhuan only exist on Novel Updates. Shounen and Shoujo also weren't carried over for some reason, even though Josei and Seinen were. (And LitRPG only exists on Scribble Hub, which...

Ecchi isn't just sexual fanservice, though - it's a very specific genre aimed usually at teenage boys. BL with fanservice is just fanservice, as far as I know. But I can change it to "typically", just in case.

    Genre Explanations (Unofficial)

As of now, there's no way for us to interact with an author's main genre - although there have been numerous requests to be able to search by them. I'm not sure what Tony plans to do with it in the future, or what it currently helps with.

    Genre Explanations (Unofficial)

I used those as a basis, but Novel Updates has genres that Scribble Hub doesn't, and Scribble Hub has some that Novel Updates doesn't. Those explanations are also rather short, so they're not always helpful in really understanding a genre.

I'm working on categorising the tags for easier browsing, but I don't think even I can provide a definition for them all. Most of Scribble Hub's tags are shared by Novel Updates, however, and a full list with definitions is available here: https://www.novelupdates.com/list-tags/ If you hover...

(LitRPG has now been updated to reflect the genre more accurately)

LitRPG is a confusing genre to me, too. There's a Wikipedia article that I used to help build my definition of it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LitRPG It does say that visible stats have to be a significant part of the reading experience. I might update the definition to better reflect that.

    Genre Explanations (Unofficial)

After various complaints from authors that the Genres used by Scribble Hub are hard to understand, I decided to create a guide to them. As this guide is the work of one singular user and is not made in association with Tony, it's unofficial. The following explanations were written using Novel...

BL Reading Club! (M/m fiction) for Readers and Writers!

I strongly recommend not beginning any event in December. It's the worst time of year for user engagement - everyone gets super busy with present-buying, final exams, family visits, etc., and most will completely disappear to enjoy their holidays. I've tried a low-engagement event during this...

Clearly, we should add the Hawaii Chair to the anthology prompt list, if there is one. For research.

BL Reading Club! (M/m fiction) for Readers and Writers!

(I realised that I'm wrong and I have actually written a little public BL here on SHF, it's just that it was hidden in the "scribble thread" game. The aim of it is to write as much as possible in 3 minutes without stopping, looking at the keyboard, or deleting anything. The quality therefore...

Then I will gladly answer the questions~! 1. I would absolutely love to take part in a competition/anthology that isn't mine~! They can be a little bit tough to run, though, so, if you want any advice on setting them up, I'm happy to help out. (Although the themes you suggested further down...

Am I allowed to join, even if I'm more of a generic queer writer who skews towards GL these days? It's nice to write BL from time to time.

    On Defining The "BL" Genre

There are frequent requests for BL recommendations every single day, so there are plenty of opportunities even if you're lax about it. Sometimes they're really specific, though.
