The concept of writing a character is always subjective regardless of whatever gender they might be. I, personally, want to write a story involving a character of neither gender. I've yet to touch that because I know how it would start and run off but not where to go with it in the end.

That is a good question. I like that the target audience helps identify what it is, but how short is considered "short" towards a novel for it to be considered a light novel? In comparison, this is like identifying the difference between a comic album and a graphic novel.

Try any CreepyPasta. Most of them have the protagonist "surviving" (they tend to be the surviving narrator of the event to warn others), but a lot of times it is after they paid a hefty sacrifice and the antagonist(s) waivers the protagonist's life in "exchange".
