I feel some parts that plot example you gave is a bit too contrived for my liking. It's like having a twist just for the sake of it.

Mostly this, to be honest. There's no point in writing when you don't have an audience. I can just keep my story in my head, without wasting hundreds of hours trying to put it down in paper. I'm not the type that likes to read my own writing. Or participate in a collaborative writing instead...

How about the average trend though? Over a month for example? I once got a really high spike out of nowhere. Never been able to replicate that.
