@Suls That's a fun story, thanks for reminding me of it.

Even looking past identity (a huge, important topic on its own), this is important because the key part of life is development and learning. Taking a shortcut will get you to places faster, but hinders learning, which will typically get you a harsher lesson the next time the same issue crops up...

At some point, if someone believes in something strongly enough, it isn't possible to convince them otherwise no matter how you adjust the circumstances. On the flip side, it's often extremely difficult to convince someone one thing is bad if they're used to it.

@Nolff That's somewhat related, but the original was more like whether one has right for revenge over something horrible against those who have not caused it.

I think, in the end, it boils down to how much value one puts on an individual. A lot believe every life is worth the same, others believe some lives are worse cause they've been born in a different country, it isn't really possible to fight that cause people's values are fucked up.

I personally don't fully agree with this, but yeah, it's all kinds of messed up how many modern people approach these topics. I've seen this a lot in regards to the recent wars.

Also, the vast majority of questions like that can be answered with "whether they have the right or not is entirely subjective, but only the person in question should decide that".

@SailusGebel I think the vast majority of those people plainly don't see their own bias. Sometimes they're just that stupid or that hypocritical, but unfortunately there's a lot of cases when it's caused by their upbringing and surroundings and they aren't even aware of the issue even though...

@Nolff The idea was similar to whether or not abortion is right, though the situation was specific and much worse. Not surprised at all it disappeared.

I think, most of the time, mocking or insulting old people is related more to their appearance or decline of mental functions, rather than their age (like going senile, I've seen that phrase quite a lot). Those are related, but it's not a direct relation, and it can be ~justified cause not all...
