I could write 2k words in around an 2 hours. Editing however adds like 3 to 4 hours to that and increases the word count to like 2.5 to 3k words. Honestly writing is the easiest part editing is a ball ache.

I know I shouldn't but its hard not to. I think it's great to take inspiration from other authors. But you have to remember it's your story so you are free to do what you want with it.

If your readers are struggling to understand what your trying to get across then I feel like it would be your job to make your character motivations more clear. If its a one off complaint then its fine but if its consistent then it must be something you as the author are doing wrong.
