There are many things I want to read, such as a Wuxia with death note levels of plotting, or a satire of Xianxia that isn't stretched out due to trying to beef up that word/chapter count. Usually whenever I write a character that lasts more than 3 chapters I make a 1k minimum word backstory even if I'll never actually publish it. Then whenever I write a scene I can 'look back' at that document so I know the interactions make sense for the character (s). Can't help you with smut...
