There is the quest to check Donald's cabin which definitely has stuff to do with the slime horde. Just take a look at it, I think you'll find the lore pretty interesting

Btw, just a suggestion, but I think other people should take quests relating to the slime horde event. I don't want to be the only pushing that plot forward as it would go against the idea of the game.
