I've also seen science fantasy novels where the author thought the (imo irrelevant) tech trivia added to the action core. And if yours isn't action science fantasy I might want to take a look at your synopsis.

There's an easy way to preempt any threat to your safety and aspirations. Make your existence something you don't mind losing, or better yet end things yourself. "100% control" over your life. Or maybe take a look at the others' approaches, if for whatever reason this entirely logical...

    1 chap author

Imo it's a lot easier to do a start that sounds good by itself than one that can support an equally entertaining story. As long as it's unwritten the story is your expectation of it, while a mediocre or bad execution usually overshadows first impressions.

Why do so many BL novels do it?

The very same archetype exists in hetero romances, the sole difference being that you have a counterexample with positive sentiment of the same gender by design of the narrative. I've also come across some where one of the love interests is in a relationship with someone of their own gender...

Are there any fantasy stories where humans are better?

And what has taken its place is self gratification projected onto other species or "uhg, humanity (not me tho ofc)". Human supremacy isn't gone of course, and whether you think of personal superiority fantasies and critical takes towards your own to be as bad as the other way is probably up for...

"Oh I gotta avoid this character!"

Doing so puts focus on the character, so if it's supposed to be indefinitely I'd say it's pointless to do so. And for anything else the "successfully" part is questionable, unless "until they change their mind on their own" counts as successful to you.

    Writing On writing intelligent characters.

"The average" might have vastly different goals approaching a field though, making the comparison based on interpretation of the evaluator. The wriggle room remains, the way I see it. The remark directly above it in conjunction with the main topic: Humility of the intelligent

    Writing On writing intelligent characters.

"People" are still as susceptible to emotional convenience though. Which leads me to this. The video exclusively talks in third person. It's neither by people who define themselves as such, nor addressing them with the intention to help with the challenges it outlines. So it either decided how...

    Writing On writing intelligent characters.

Three things. If this is such an overwhelmingly common trait in intelligent people it makes a character relevantly less realistic, where does all this content on the traits of intelligence come from? The people themselves don't toot their own horn by definition, the others would rather praise...
