Meh. I like that Gear 4 at least is only a result of combining Luffy's DF powers with Haki. Feels like a nice way of making the two feel like one power system. Gear 5 is just Tom and Jerry antics combined with Luffy's retarted laughing.
But this is my exact point of this shit happening when it takes you 30 years to finish your story. Luffy actually being the reincarnation of some legendary revolutionary who himself is the reincarnation of God obviously isn't the direction the story was initially going in.
Well, while some works went to shit after 100 or so chapters, some are shit from the get-go, One Piece was top tier for a very long time. It's hard to keep this level of quality till the end.
Also, Oda kind of shoot himself in the leg with Gear 4. By combining haki with DF he basically had no other option to power up Luffy. It is the direct result of power creep I think, or at the very lest one of the major reasons. That's another reason why I dislike Gear 4. It also lacks creativity that Luffy has as a character as he came up with gear 2 and 3.
Let's be honest. Oda shot himself in the foot, creating haki in the first place. Why the hell does Crocodile have no defense against not being intangible when he's apparently fought against guys that can make him not intangible?
The only problem I have with Gear 4 is that Luffy unlocked it in Dressrosa and not in Wano. If he did it closer to the end of the series, him having nowhere to go up wouldn't be a problem.
Buggy was one of the Gol D. Roger crew members, albeit more of an apprentice. So the fact Crocodile was a warlord means nothing. This only reinforces what I've said, not every pirate trains.
Except that being on a crew doesn't imply strength. I mean, look at half the Straw Hats. They don't even have haki. Pathetic. Being a warlord means you are so dangerous that the world government thinks it's in its best interest to strike a deal with you. A better example would be bringing up that Buggy was a warlord but in that case they got bamboozled into thinking that he's a threat.
It's a devil fruit.
