Revenge, as tantalizing as it may be, doesn't fix anything. Especially for the most heinous of evils :blob_hmm_two:

The few times folks tried to get revenge for a genocide ended up with absolutely nothing gained.

The only path forward is truth, reconciliation, and justice

Of course I'm speaking from the position of someone who has never been genocided :sweating_profusely:

This shit sounds like ass until you reach the last song. Then you are thrown into an ethereal plain of pain and sorrow out of nowhere. Had this album in my cd collection for years.

In Indonesia, "punk" doesn't really sound like you'd think, a lot of the time. Punk can mean anything really. No need for high tempo power chords and angry vocals. Even just a bunch of kids singing over a ukulele is punk.

    And that's what this is.

Punk Street Indonesia is a legendary song by who the fuck even knows.

That's the thing with these songs. They're made by a bunch of kids while the internet was still in its infancy here, and no one really cares to figure out who they are. You gotta be in the know to know, you know.

Anyway, this song is like American Pie. Epic in length and very topical.

Except it doesn't try to shroud any of its meaning in metaphor. It's very on the nose, as punk tends to be.

It's a nice little time capsule from Indonesian society circa 2000-ish.

Anyway, I also have an actual punk recommendation

Teenage Death Star are a hardcore punk band managed by one of my old college professors. Very cool. He also seems like a pretty cool guy, except for that time he discouraged his students from taking the day off to protest. Not very punk.

Funnily enough, when I spent a semester in the UK, the professors were the ones on strike.
I highly respect musicians who are so good at their instruments that they start playing stuff that sounds like shit on purpose

These guys are the Indonesian math rock band. Straight up. No one's better than them.

And just to randomly dox myself: they're from my city and this music video was filmed in my former highschool :blob_aww:

Anyway, this song is great. The guitarist has riffs for days, the drummer's tight tight tight, and the bassist's super melodic

They also seem like really cool guys (I've never met them despite them residing in the same city as me). Their song "Sandy" was made for Down Syndrome Awareness Month with its music video recorded in one of the special needs schools here. Really nice sentiment. The song also has sick ass riffs.
I was about to complain about romance manga again but then I remember that I've done that way too many times :blob_hmm:

Not to mention that the need for fast progress can lead to contrived progress. Oh, the male lead was kind to the female lead that one time, and I guess that's enough for love to bloom. Let it cook for longer, man. The steak's still mooing.

We don't get too many of those anymore, but instead we get even more of what I said I wouldn't complain about
If you're from a country that doesn't have English as its primary language, you most definitely have gained random niche knowledge from the reading section of English proficiency tests.

Every once in a while, I'll remember that Darjeeling Limited is a movie that exists because it was on a TOEFL test once.
I think y'all put too much ice in your drinks
Last night I dreamt that I was kidnapped by these random dudes and they wanted me to solve calculus problems in order to free me

    Just pull the trigger ?

Remember how pop songs in the 2010s all had rap random rap features? Imagine that but turned into a band. Or imagine if NWA had a singer-songwriter. That's what this is.

Bondan Prakoso's a hella talented musician, and Fade2Black are a rap group, and they're incredible together. This song especially is legendary for its uplifting lyrics and chorus.

"Ya sudahlah" pretty much translates to "it is what it is". The song essentially preaches "fuck it, we ball" before that phrase existed, reassuring the listener that they aren't alone and that everything will be okay in the end. Very warm stuff. Kinda like that Gym Class Heroes songs with Adam Levine, but better because Adam Levine isn't on it.
I know sometimes my posts can be a little bit incendiary, spicy, or the dreaded p adjective

But let me have this one

This might get me booted off this site for good and offend some, but it's an important point to make. Skip if you're uncomfortable. I understand.

From the most iconic Indonesian band to likely the most iconic solo musician.

Iwan Fals has been compared to Bob Dylan, with his folksy instrumentation, loud ass harmonica, and socially charged lyrics.

I don't really listen to him but his songs cover a whole range of topics, such as corruption, education, prostitution, unions, onions, cations, etc.

This one in particular is named after and about his son, Galang Rambu Anarki-- translated as Support the Sign of Anarchy.

Probably the sickest name of all time other than Alexander T. Great.

But anyways, this song's a nice little ditty about raising a son in this economy. Some nice lines about asking for forgiveness for not being able to afford milk and encouraging the kid to grow quick and cry hard.

Sadly, Galang Rambu Anarki, a musician himself, passed away in 1997 at just 15. Either due to asthma or a drug overdose.

    Rest in Peace ?️

Also I understand you're the most iconic solo musician in Indonesia's history, but how are you going to let your son get hooked on drugs at 15
I hate it when j*b websites put "You might be a strong candidate" next to a listing and the thing that makes me a "strong candidate" is just like, the fact that I'm a human being shrimp who exists in the physical plane, while completely ignoring the j*b requirements of a PhD in astrophysics and a submarine license.

Ghosts aren't real, unless you're in Southeast Asia.

Ask anyone from the region. They all have ghost stories.

Even the people who don't believe in ghosts have ghost stories
