Novel.

Basically novel just put:

MC attacks but he missed.

THREE FUCKING TIMES.

IN A ROW.

FOR WHAT?!?!

Why do writers overly describe anything? Word count.
NotaNuffian
NotaNuffian
Yeah.

Word count.

He could've just said MC failed to land hits ONCE.

And villain way of hitting back is lame as well.
SirContro
SirContro
But did he only fail once, Nuffian?
SirContro
SirContro
To say he only missed once would be dishonest.
NotaNuffian
NotaNuffian
He failed thrice.

And always with each failure to land, MC will go shocked pikachu.

Only until fourth time did it land and it is because MC finally got it.

Author could put MC hit thrice failed all thrice

One sentence.

Isn’t this typically CN though? It being pretty much like an endless grind, with the powers up being gotten for no good reason?

That was my experience with the genre, there never really seem to a solidly catching progression, since it typically boils down to becoming a godlike being or something.

I’ve seen the type of story you’re describing pretty much with every story in the CN genre.

Isn't this what Star-Knight already pointed out though?

Actually on second look that message got absolutely buried by the conversation that followed.

Yes, cultivation novels are stupid, but the Nuffian powers through all the terrible writing so that he can one day find a unicorn of the genre, that of course being a decently paced story with logical progression.

Someone never saw tackle miss three times in a row, or the 256 glitch three times in a row. :blob_popcorn:

That aside, gotta love how the character suddenly gets Storm Trooper aim as soon as the plot demands it. :blob_sir:

CN has an interesting concept, but I never see it fully utilized. They tend to look like they are going in a solid direction, then it all just fall apart in my experience.

Eventually going on without a point or a strong point.

Oddly enough my cultivation story is as linear to the main point of the story as it can get.

Or will be when I find the motivation to actually write it. (might actually add some variety when converting the notes to a manuscript)

What makes you think these stories fall apart?

I can’t really put my finger on it, but many tend to become directionless. Lacking a strong foundation that gives meaning to getting stronger, an actual grip I guess it lacks on a more deeper level.

They start out promising, and then after a bit they trip over themselves. In my experience, I’d rank CN’s very low.

Nickelodeon is better, I agree.

Kind of why short works are the best.

What do you consider short, Nuffian?
