No but really. Why do they use this kind of style.
I mean. Sure, lot of authors read LoTR HP etc but like, DID THEY EVEN CHECK THE WEBSITE/READER-BASE/MAINSTREAM-LIKES before posting !? :blob_blank:= its like trying a youtube channel with 30min long guide videos ! when its no longer popular !

And "why Scribblehub ????" :blob_blank:
Royalroad could be a potentially better choice.
Lot of "serious style" novels like that have better chance to get popular there.
SH is full of JPstyle and/or smut (mostly smut LOLOL)

Its like doing GL and posting on a women/fujoshi-focused website. (its not illegal but dang) (btw yes, there is a JPR18syosetu womenversion but its mostly BL and 4-5 GL)

Also for information.

There is like 80 animes, 100 videogames, 1000 novels, 30+ manhua/hwa/ga currently translated. AND THAT IS HIGH QUALITY STUFF. If we add the meh stuff its like x2 !!!!

And then there is the untranslated AND/OR the old stuff and you multiply by x10 !!!
So yeah, its 2024, not 2010
And even in 2010, there were already masterpiece like Mushoku webnovel.

That is the kind of "competition" that you MUST FIGHT AGAINST, to get "readers/likes".

Meanwhile think of Vtuber industry.
Have you ever wondered about the other Vtubers beside Hololive ?
Yes there are some with only 50~ viewers ! Or even just 3 !

Even some vtuber taking the image of an animal or inanimate things !

Anyway, your series is like that.
sorry for telling harsh truth. :sweating_profusely:

1) Title
2) Summary
3) Theme / tags

99% of readers will choose to read or not.
That is why its the "meta" for JP (and later on KR/CN) authors to spoil and write very long title or catchy ones.
Because its daily competiton against others, and in a race, having a bonus step is enormous buff to victory.

the comment on your 1st chapter summs it up nicely. your opening chapter does not compel me to read more.

regarding the stats, they'll come as you write. If you're writing for updotes and want instant gratification pick one of the popular audience.

also, your cover is unappealing

Now SH readers only read when a novel stockpile to 100+
its also bc too many novels are axed/dropped. Or author disappearing.

Or bc after seeing the said-novel popping up multiple times in front page they go : i will try
Or : oh ? this novel have 200+ chaps ? maybe i should give it a go

No let's be very honest.

The first sentence made me drop.
Its a beautiful morning in a busy marketplace.
Its like a fairy tale beginning.
or very poofing looney toons beginning. "The bird sing, the sun shine, AND GIANT ROCKS ARE FALLING !"

Its too "narrator"ish
Im like in 1950

SH is not a primarily jp-webnovel site. jp style webnovels are very popular but they are not the only successful writing style here. The same with smut. Smut is very popular here. But it is not the only successful genre.

Anyone who gets a chance to flee this kingdom, does so. Though only few succeed. The corpses of those who fail, are hung from the Walls at the border, as a reminder. As a Warning.

There is no law in this land.
Anarchy is the only rule.
Anarchists the only rulers.

let me be clear, your comments are based of ignorance and come off as demeaning and discouraging. there is no one formula for success. writing what's popular doesn't always work. in the contrary, sometimes the audience needs something different.

and as more and more authors cross-post, the defined genres for novel sites blur. I found multiple jp-style webnovels on RR with decent readers and reviews.

yep i know. didnt write correctly my bad

But at same time, just had a thought : "its the market that dictate"
so despite it kinda wrong morally, if occupants of a police-dictrist are mostly villains, its a villain district

I know and feel bad, but sadly the truth is like that.

true but need SKILLS to back it up

and lets be honest, DO YOU know how many unskilled non-mainstream flop everyday ?
No.

Yes i know BOSS2005 could potentially become a great author and be the 1%

@greyblob They blur, but you can't beat the content guidelines. There is a reason why SH likes Smut and GL works. Because RR does not allow it in the same amount as SH. There are WN and AO3, but people don't like WN, and AO3 is outdated. So it is safe to say SH likes smut and GL, but it is far from being the only popular genres.

Also let's not fool ourselves that there is a 99% he wont succeed.
False hope is sometimes worse than telling the truth.

The fact he started it without checking so many details, nor EVEN know mainstream trends, and write it like that, and doing a stupid question of "3 CHAPTERS why so little views ???" (i would also do it too though) is quite dangerous sign.

Also its a dumb defense.
Ofc its possible to work.

Not everything is black and white / extreme.
Just like a slice-life series could be popular in a hotbloodnovels website. Or like "5000years of cultivation" in xianxia, as a sci-fi tech xianxia.

@SailusGebel I agree. but I don't think it's hopeless. it's not like op is writing a historical non-fiction book on wattpad. I do not like how this thread derailed to "why are you writing this garbage go to rr instead".

this is a form of gatekeeping that I do not want to see

@greyblob Oh, for sure. Almost anything can get popular if you work hard enough. It depends on how hard you have to work. At times like this I lament the fact I forgot the title of a super unpopular SH story, that became popular simply because author was consistent and hardworking.
