LOL! And nope! The pandemic is why the comic book industry is dying, not this thread! The largest distributor of comics in America, Diamond Comics, shut down during the pandemic completely.

@dummycake We have different opinion on what is considered good. Anyway, you can always make a so-so fanfic, and people will happily read it. The only one who can stop you is yourself.

Starsdamn... so many texts happened while I was typing... :sweating_profusely:
Anyway, to continue, physical comics in the form of graphic novels are huge! Particularly with the rise of manga comics. Just as America had its explosion of artistic influence on the world with its rise of comics, now it's Japan's turn for the physical comics in the form of manga.

takes one to know one, I can smell your poopooheadiness from my screen.
the mainstream comic industry is dying because its concept it's not compatible with modern western ways of media consumption
asian comics and novels thrive on the screens of the average worker commuting.

even if it's not digital, Japan loves its physical media, so physical manga is still alive and well
what about the western ways of consuming media?
most of us just consume everything through the internet, only buying something if it's a limited edition or you I really love the series

and if it's digital, how would you read a comic on your way to work in a culture dominated by cars?
you're going to listen to a podcast, that's why they're multiplying like the plague
they have to change their whole concept to fit the new age.
that's why there's a Vogue YouTube channel, when they were only known for their magazines

TL;DR: you're an idiot

also I hate the character limit, there's no reason for it to exist

The only reason why it's Japan's turn, is because they have no competition. Major comic industry is a scorched field, and there is more than one reason for it. One of the main reasons is not even bad stories, but the fact they still have not figured out how to make it easy to start reading for new readers.

And I speak as someone who tried to get into reading comics. I gave up since there is too much continuity and reboots.
RepresentingWrath

Same reason why Fate or index is not as popular as they could've been. Too convoluted, way too many spin-offs, reboots, and other shit.

yeah, they can't say goodbye to their cash cow and start new stories
mangas are written by individual writers with characters, generally, under one story
comics are written by multiple writers in the same company sharing multiple story lines.
it's a fucking mess and they have to do a miracle to save this industry
RepresentingWrath

Well, they can definetely help themself a bit if they hire people who are actually talented, know how to write, and are suited\comfortable to write whatever they are going to be given. But it won't solve the root of the issue.

Not dumping on long time fans would help a lot.

it's really complicated, isn't it?
if you focus on the fans, the new readers wouldn't get it and you would get irrelevant
if your focus on the new readers, the fans will review bomb you and make you fan service all the way, not bringing new stuff into the franchise, and you would get irrelevant

Marvel Comics is not dying anytime soon because, even if the movies are bad nowadays, the cultural impact was too big for they to just stop making more comics
RepresentingWrath
RepresentingWrath
Nah, Marvel can die in a span of a few days. Investors don't care about impact.

As for your previous reply, you can do both. DC and Marvel are big fucking companies, they can afford to do both. It's that simple in terms of solution of this particular problem. Won't help with other problems.

by the way, get out of my profile, transphobe

Personally, I agree with Sailus on the topic of Marvel. Investors can be really callous and will cut their losses surprisingly abruptly.

You can do both, but there are normally trade-offs, like with determining momentum and location under the Heisenberg Uncertainty Theorem.

You can at least try. Still better than sitting on your ass doing nothing. But now that I wrote it, I doubt top managers even care about all of it. They are there for a few years, then they will resign and go suck the juices out of a different company.
