I think i've seen the pattern for some Murim MC's....
1. The MC is an undisputed War/Demon God who has beaten the entire Murim and is either sealed by forces more powerful than him or let him/herself get sealed since there's no point in fighting back as he/she wants to experience it

The MC is not the evil god's lackey but he IS the personification or avatar of the evil god itself. Blackie or should i say "the black shadow" is some what the MC's guardian or helper.
