Depends on the wasp. I've been stung by bees as much as wasps.

How big was the wasp nest to have it removed?

Wasps are usually incredibly territorial, so if a wasp builds a nest on your house, your house is now it's territory and it will try to sting you when you come outside. They also don't rip out their guts when they sting you like bees so they're more likely to sting as there is no downside.

Even tiny paper wasp nests can contain a few hundred wasps.
